Pastor Micah shared a message called "The Greatest Commandment" this week focused on Jesus answering the question, 'of all of the commandments, which is the most important?' in Mark chapter 12. Jesus answers the question by quoting 2 old testament commandments from Deuteronomy 6:4-5 and Leviticus 19:18.
Jesus says that loving God with all the we have and loving our neighbor our both equally important! Dr. Kim Huat Tan wrote in her commentary on the Gospel of Mark that "love for God is actualized in love for neighbor!"
Jesus went on to share two stories later in the chapter about what it means to put yourself first and what it means to love God with everything you have. The religious leaders didn't love God. They loved what being associated with God got them. Whereas the old widow who gave her two coins "gave her whole life" where you look at the original Greek translations.
Bottom Line: Loving God is giving God your whole life!
