Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 30 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Monday morning 04 November 2024.
Happy birthday Ben Hazelman!
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a balmy 23 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning.
In Rugby Union: Former Australia and Leinster rugby player Rocky Elsom who fled Ireland after Irish police arrived at his workplace and home to detain him following an international arrest warrant, issued by French authorities, has now gone on record in the Australian press as to his sudden exit from Ireland.
The 41-year-old was convicted in October by a French Court of forgery, use of forgery, and misuse of corporate assets, related to his time as President of French rugby club Narbonne in 2014 and 2015.
The court in France sentenced Elsom in absentia to five years in prison and ordered him to repay approximately €700,000 to the Club.
In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Elsom, who did not disclose how he left Ireland or his current location, criticized the legal proceedings in France, saying that he was neither informed of the trial, nor given a chance to respond to the allegations, which he denies.
In Rugby League: England roasted Toa Samoa 16-34 in their second test at AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium on Saturday. Shown live on BBC One, the clash attracted an average audience of 741,000, and peaked at 844,000.
Meanwhile the Papua New Guinea Kumuls showed they are the best, winning the Pacific Bowl, beating the Cook Islands Aitu in Port Moresby yesterday 44-20.
They now play the New Zealand Kiwis next week.
In the WNBA: Stephanie White’s signing as the new Head Coach of the Indiana Fever, leaves six WNBA teams missing Head Coaches - the Los Angeles Sparks, Sky, Dallas Wings, Atlanta Dream, Washington Mystics and the Sun - who finished last season with a winning record, are all without Head Coaches.
Front Office Sports reports the possible reasons for the mass Head Coach firings across the WNBA could be related to their unprecedented growth and the extra money teams are expecting to receive from the US$2.2Billion media-rights deal.
In F1 Racing: Red Bull driver Max Verstappen took a major step toward securing his fourth straight F1 title, by winning the Brazilian Grand Prix overnight, to earn his first victory since June, and his eighth grand prix win of the year.
Despite starting 17th on the grid, the flying Dutchman increased his lead over McLaren's Lando Norris with three races remaining.
Verstappen could secure the trophy in Las Vegas this month.
In Combat Sports: While many fans have expressed concerns about Mike Tyson fighting an opponent who is more than 30 years younger than him, he insists there is nothing to be worried about.
"I don't think I'm 58. Do you think I feel 58 when I'm fighting these young niggers in the gym, and they're bashing me them big strong mothers, and I'm bashing them back," he said.
And that’s a wrap sports fans!
