In this special crossover episode of Bloody Murder and True Crime Island, we discuss Serial Killer Rattlesnake James. Half assed conman and serial killer Robert S. James gained infamy when he tried to murder his fifth wife Mary by putting her leg into a box of rattlesnakes. When she failed to die in a timely enough fashion, he drowned her in the bathtub and tried to cash in her life insurance policy. Insurance investigators discovered his third wife Winona had also died by drowning shortly after marrying him and taking out a large insurance policy. His nephew had met an untimely end in a suspicious fashion too and the less said about what he got up to with his 18 year old niece, the better. Aussie As: Two Western Australian mates get swept out to sea while drifting on an inflatable mattress on the ocean and drinking an esky full of beer. In honour of International Women's Day - March 8th 2021. Mayor of Bell Gardens California, Daniel Crespo Snr abused his wife Lyvette for 28 years. He also threatened those he worked with in the council and had a secretary fired for not sleeping with him. On September 30th, 2014, while beating Lyvette, he turned his violent rage toward their teenage son when he tried to intervene. Crespo punched his son in the face so hard he fell down the stairs. What happened next was an unusual ending to a horribly common situation. TCNT: Doug Coster wrote to us about the Investigation Discovery Channel show Dead North. In 1984, Richard Farley met new co-worker Laura Black at the Sunnyvale, California office of their employer ESL. He was instantly attracted to Laura and asked her out on numerous occasions but she politely refused his advances. Unwilling to take no for an answer, Farley proceeded to stalk Laura relentlessly. After four years of Farley's constant harassment, Laura saw no option but to take out a temporary restraining order against him. A court date was set for February 17th, 1988 to make the order permanent. On February 16th, Richard Farley went on a shooting spree at ESL, murdering seven people and wounding four others. This is the conclusion of our two part special on Angel of Death - Dulcie Markham. If you haven't listened to part one, and you want any of this to make sense, we recommend you listen to it first. Murder adjacent Dulcie Markham was the darling of the Australian underworld, known as Pretty Dulcie and Dainty Dulcie, she also became known in the media as The Angel of Death and The Black Widow. As the years went by Dulcie lost more of her boyfriends and husbands to shootings and stabbings. Dulcie definitely had a type and it was only a matter of time before she, herself would be targeted. In the end ‘Australia’s most beautiful bad woman’ had to find an escape from this cycle of violence. Jessie Hickman a.k.a. The Lady Bushranger and The Wild Woman of Wollemi led an extraordinary but short life. After 34 year old beauty therapist and mother of two, Novy Chardon went missing from her Gold Coast home in February 2013, her husband John wasn't even slightly concerned. He made sexual advances to her friends who came looking for her and didn't bother reporting his fifth wife's disappearance to the police. The day she vanished, Novy's divorce lawyer had sent John an email saying she wanted half his assets in the settlement. Interestingly enough, this is almost exactly what had happened before Chardon's first wife Maureen died of a suspicious overdose 17 years earlier. You could say the crap apple doesn't fall too far from the crap tree. In the case of Matthew Milat this couldn't be more true. Nephew of Backpacker Murderer, Ivan Milat, Matthew’s crimes were also brutal and disgusting. On November 20, 2010, Matthew lured David Auchterlonie to the Belanglo State Forest on his 17th birthday with the promise of beers and weed. There, with the help of friend Cohen Klein, they tortured, tormented and murdered David with a double-sided battle axe in the same forest where his Uncle murdered seven backpackers nearly 20 years earlier. This episode was recorded on the 10th Anniversary of the evening when Matthew murdered David Auchterlonie. TCNT: Keely Johnston tells out about the true documentary, Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer which is showing on Amazon Prime. Aussie As: Another naked bloody legend chases down a would-be robber. When Las Vegas real estate magnate Ron Rudin went missing in 1994, his wife Margaret didn’t seem too concerned. He’d been gone four days before she reported Ron missing, and she did so only after Ron's coworkers had already informed the police. Margaret soon became the prime suspect when her husband's charred remains were discovered at a nearby Lake. When the law closed in on the softly spoken grandmother, she skipped town. On the lam, Margaret Rudin deployed a plethora of disguises and fake identities to elude capture. TCNT: Tracey Stewart tells us about the true crime book, American Heiress by Jeffrey Toobin. This is Part Two of That Bastard Bruce Burrell , if you haven't listened to part one and you want any of this to make sense, we suggest you push stop and go back and listen to episode 171. In part one we covered the 1995 mysterious disappearance of 74-year-old widow Dottie Davis. Two years later, mother of three, Kerry Whelan was kidnapped in Parramatta and a one million dollar US ransom was demanded for her safe return. Dottie and Kerry both had close ties to slick con man Bruce Burrell. This episode we detail the investigation into Kerry's kidnap and the long road to justice for the Whelan and Davis families. 74-year-old widow Dottie Davis disappeared from the beautiful seaside suburb of Maroubra, in Sydney in 1995. She was never seen again and the case soon went cold. Two years later, mother of three Kerry Whelan was kidnapped in Parramatta and a one million dollar ransom was demanded for her safe return. It would take police nearly a decade to find the perpetrator of these seemingly unrelated cases and bring the bastard to justice. TCNT: Stephanie tells us about the Netflix documentary Prosecuting Evil: The Extraordinary World of Ben Ferencz. Aussie As: A Brisbane man gets his jollies by jumping out from behind trees and bushes naked and masturbating at women walking past. For our sources, see our website www.bloodymurderpodcast.com. This is Part Two of Beefcake and Bullets – The Chippendales Murder , if you haven't listened to part one and you want any of this to make sense, we suggest you push stop and go back and listen to episode 168. Steve Banerjee had gone from rags to riches by creating the male erotic dance troupe the Chippendales, but he didn’t do it alone. Emmy award winning television producer and Broadway choreographer, Nick De Noia gave the Chippendales routines the glitz and glamor that made them world famous. But Steve, not adverse to acts of crime to retain his power, had a falling out with De Noia and called in his right hand man and crappy doer of cheeky arsons, Ray Colon to organise a hit on the unsuspecting Nick De Noia. TCNT: Tara interviewed podcaster and author Paul Verhoeven about his true crime books Loose Units and his latest release Electric Blue. Aussie As: A fancy private school in the affluent suburb of North Sydney makes headlines after a vile muck up day challenge is made public. Steve Banerjee, creator of the world famous male stripper troupe, The Chippendales, would do anything to protect his brand. And what a brand it was; at their peak the Chippendales were raking in millions of dollars a year. Controlling and consumed by greed, Steve had everything he could dream of thanks to his thrusting empire of man meat, but it was never enough. In the end he resorted to arson, extortion and murder to retain his power. Welcome to part one of our two part special on The Chippendales Murder. TCNT: Nia Thimakis tells us about the book, 'A Solitude of Wolverines' by Alice Henderson. Aussie As: A drug courier who smashed into two parked police cars with a shit-tonne of ice in his van goes with a rather honest legal defence.
