Jude Gleaning through the Book of Jude pt 3 (examples of apostasy in the past).

Beloved let us continue to glean through Jude. Let’s look at verses 5-11. Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not stay within their position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively.

Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam's error and perished in Korah's rebellion.

Jude says I want to remind you of some examples of God’s judgments again Apostasy. Beloved, please take notice of verse 5 Jude said Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, Great is the sin of those who despise unchanging truths. The reason why they despise unchanging truths, doctrine, and teaching, is because they have itching, ears, not humble and obedient ears. Christians must not only receive, the word but retain also the truths of God's word. Our memories must be in the heavenly storehouse of the treasuries of precious truths; not like hourglasses, which are full but very soon they are running out. Beloved we should never run out of love, faith and hope. Jesus was the only preacher who made His congregation smaller with His preaching. He would have big crowds following Him and then He would come up with a line like” Unless you deny your mother and father, yea, your own life, you cannot be My disciple.” The Bible says those people left. Why? Because He never let the crowd control the truth.

Jude is going to give us six examples of apostasy in the past. Before we glean through this section, let me give you the definition of apostasy (A-pos-ta-sy). Apostasy means an abandonment of one’s faith or religious convictions. It is willful it is a conscious departure from God, and it is never unplanned. I believe that Apostates are hardened to the point, of not being able to repent (Hebrews 6:6; 10:26).

Now Jude reminded them in verse 5 that in the wilderness, Israel in unbelief was destroyed, and it is an example that God does judge apostates. When Israel came to Kadesh–barnea, they refused to enter the Promised Land.

Listen, beloved, God wonderfully delivered the nation of Israel out of Egyptian bondage (Exo_12:51; Deu_4:34), only to have them respond in unbelief, doubting, and defecting from faith i
