In our first 'All Ladies' cast, we introduce our elegant colleague Sehrish Hussain from the University of Michigan and a representative in its Central Student Goverment(CSG). She hosts a power-loaded interview with a set of higher achievers in the east coast born to immigrant parents. The guests narrate their path in navigating their triple destinies of being Women, Muslim and Black in a campus community. Aminata and Mariyamou are two bright and bold women that have recently graduated from New York University. They have joined Sehrish on a 3 week journey at Alim tackling questions like what it means to be Muslim-American and going back, actually for most starting with, the question of “Why Islam?" Aminata and Mariyamou’s revolutionary Black Muslim Initiative at NYU is an achievement that strikes at the core of the complex conflict between people of different races and ethnicities within organizations like the Muslim Students Association. We touch on their personal struggle with holding on to Islam while in college intertwined with their passion and drive when it came to fighting for inclusivity on their campus.…

Some months after Malcolme finishes his 'Time Down', he heads to Chicago to continue his scholarly pursuit at the ALIM Summer Program 2019. In this segment, we interviewed one of our eminent colleagues of the 2019 Cohort. In the main segment(The first 20 minutes), we ask him about his pre-ALIM program thoughts as well as the post -ALIM reflections and lastly the "Muhammad Ali" question. At Overtime, we are privileged to hear about his study spirit and learning Islam through Tabah Foundation's work in prisons, his work in Criminal Justice reform and Community revival dreams for San Diego. We also get to hear a piece of his heart for the broader Muslim community who may not be in tune with the struggle, ranging from prison assistance towards Muslim inmates to catering for the less priviledged groups in our community. Malcolme Muttaqee says he is first and foremost a testament to the transformative power of Islam. After spending over a decade behind bars for youthful mistakes, he has become an advocate for others who are directly impacted by the Prison Industrial Complex. Brother Malcolme is the official Muslim Organizer for Pillars of the Community, a faith-based organization in San Diego focused on social justice and reforming the criminal justice system. Malcolme is also a youth mentor for the Movement Enrichment Program which allows him to work with kids in the same juvenile hall he was once detained in as a minor. Grand pa Rahim is the eldest among the ALIMni 2019 Cohort. He is one of the founders of the earliest latino muslim communities in the east coast and in the country. He has been Muslim for over 46 years but had daunting questions to ask his scholarly colleagues at the ALIM program 2019. We ask him about his experience so far since the 60s, the question of an 'American Muslim' identity in the past and present as well as our "Muhammad Ali" question. Rahim is a Puerto Rican New Yorker who has held positions such as the Guidance Council Member of the Islamic Party of North America, Copy/Contributing Editor for The Message magazine, and co-founder the now defunct Latino-based organization Alianza Islamica. He is currently in retirement, yet here for the 'longer run' of his life, ever energetic for the next "herculean" contribution for the sake of Allah.
