Welcome back to Atomic Zero! This week, we are joined by our returning guest, Professor Gonzalez of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University. He has a long and distinguished career in academia, activism, and law.

Professor Gonzalez is a founding member of the Asian American Studies Department at San Francisco State University. He was also a key figure in the San Francisco State Strike of 1968-69, which led to the creation of the first Asian American Studies department in the United States. Professor Gonzalez has also served on the boards of several organizations, including the National Asian American Telecommunications Association (NAATA) and the Pinay/Pinoy Educational Partnerships (PEP).

In this episode, we will talk to Professor Gonzalez about his thoughts on the current political climate, his retirement, and his plans for the future. We will also discuss his work in the fields of Asian American studies, law, and community activism.

The professor has made significant contributions to the fields of Asian American studies, law, and community activism. Their work has helped to document and preserve the history and culture of Filipino Americans, and has raised awareness of the challenges faced by this community.

  • 1968-69: Started as co-lecturer in the Asian American Studies Department at San Francisco State University, after the San Francisco State Strike.
  • 1974: Graduated from Hastings College of Law.
  • 1975: Co-photo editor of Liwanag, a Filipino American community newspaper.
  • 1979-81: Board member of the West Bay Filipino Multi-Service Center and the District 5 Mental Health Advisory Board.
  • 1980-83: Member of the International Hotel Block Development Advisory Committee.
  • 1988-94: Board member of the National Asian American Telecommunications Association (NAATA).
  • 2007-10: Board member of the Pinay/Pinoy Educational Partnerships (PEP).
  • 2008-11: Contributing photographer and co-editor of Filipinos in San Francisco, a history in photographs.
  • 2009-present: Co-curator of the All Power to the People Archive at San Francisco State University.
  • 2012: Organized panel discussions on the history and literature of Filipinos in the Salinas Valley.
