Unmovable in Truth 1 Corinthians 15:58 Hebrews 4:12 January 15, 2023 We believe the Bible is the Word of God. It is Inspired (God Breathed). It is Authoritative. It is Infallible (without error). It is Good News for all people. We can’t live in a fallen society and not be tainted by it’s belief system without Absolute Truth being our compass. 2 Tim 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Faith is required to believe God’s Word. Paul wrote in Romans 12:3 that God has given to every believer a ‘measure’ of faith. In Romans 10:17 he wrote, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” Some say, I need proof the Bible is Truth before I believe. The Truth of God’s Word is proven by prophecy, archeology, and history. 1. Fulfilled prophecy proves the Bible is Inspired (God-Breathed). The Bible was written over 1600 years by 40 authors in 66 books. Over 2500 prophecies and around 2000 have already been fulfilled to the letter. The probability of all these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance without error is less than one in 102000 (that is 1 with 2,000 zeros written after it)! 374 of these prophecies were Messianic Prophecies. Peter Stone in his book, Science Speaks, states the probability of even 8 of these prophecies being fulfilled in one man is 1 in 1 quadrillion. That is 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000! 2. Archeology proves the Bible’s accuracy. Archeology has never uncovered anything that contradicts the Bible! Hundreds of cities have been discovered by Archeologists. Nineveh, Jericho, Joppa, Ephesus, Capernaum, Bethel to name a few. Nelson Glueck, a renowned Jewish archaeologist, stated that, “no archaeological discovery has ever disproved a Biblical reference!” As Christians, our faith does NOT depend on Archeological discoveries, our faith rests on the power of God and the revelation of Jesus Christ. 3. History proves the Bible’s validity. The Bible is not written as a history book, but it is a book that contains much history. In his article, Historical Proof of the Bible, Jim Franks says, “Roman and Jewish historians were no fans of Christianity, but they give historical proof of the Bible, including the life of Jesus Christ.” The fact that historians have confirmed more than 100 biblical characters in secular history is impressive and provides a remarkable proof for the validity of Scripture. Robert Van Voorst, in his book Jesus Outside the New Testament wrote, “No pagans and Jews who opposed Christianity denied Jesus’ historicity or even questioned it” The Word of God, the Bible, is Living and Active. None of this Book is irrelevant or insignificant. The Word of God can affect your life. How it does depends on how you choose to accept and apply the Word. Martin Luther declared, “My Conscience is captive to the Word of God. To go against my conscience is neither right nor safe.” Jesus used the Word of God to defeat Satan, confound the religious and bring hope to the sinner. The Word brings light, direction, guidance, peace, hope, assurance and so much more to the one who chooses to believe.
