Do you want to make a difference, but just aren't sure how to go about it, or how to get started? Amber Hahto and Robert Trozzo share their journey of starting a passion project that helps raise funds for ovarian cancer research. What started as a fun exploration into pottery, blossomed into a great little side project that allows Amber and Robert to tap into their respective talents and make a difference with their art. Show notes: Be open to being vulnerable. Nothing happens until you share your ideas, your work and your art. The only way to get over analysis-paralysis is to take action. Embrace your creative side, and seek out opportunities for accidental creative acts. Listen to our interview with Todd Henry for more on this. The story behind the brand is sometimes more powerful than sales, or marketing. You CAN make a difference in world. You just have to start. I would love to hear about your creative or side projects! You can share them with me directly at hello@26k.ca – maybe we'll have you on the next season of of the podcast :) Thanks for listening, – ernest.…

26k Podcast // Art of meaningful work

Nir Eyal wrote the book on habit forming technology, called “Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products” . In this interview, we talk about how he was able to change his own everyday habits in order to pursue more meaningful work and living. He provides a few awesome hacks for making small changes and changing your own habits as well. Show Notes: My top three podcasts: Invisible Office Hours , Portfolio Life , and The Lede . Instead of focusing on the goal of writing a book, Nir focused on sitting down for 45 minutes every day in order to build a habit of writing. The book came naturally after he sorted that habit out. Setting goals can cripple your progress, especially if you have to do creative work, or seek to find answers to questions you don’t have answers to yet. Focus on MEA (Minimum Enjoyable Action), in order to start building better habits. Getting your physical body in order, allows your your mind to function better, and builds a foundation for healthy habits for life. Using a simple $5 timer from Home Depot could just save your marriage :) To check out Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, here is the book , and the audiobook . Listen to the interview with Paul Jarvis on living without goals, and Jason Zook on leading an Action Army. If you enjoyed this episode, or this podcast in general – I would really appreciate if you would take a couple of minutes and leave an honest review or rating on iTunes . It would help me build a better show, and help other folks find the podcast :) Don’t forget, you can always get in touch with me directly at hello@26k.ca . Thank you for listening, – ernest.…

Todd Henry wrote The Accidental Creative , and Die Empty - the latter of which caught my eye and ear. We catch up in this interview and talk about turmoil and stress as part of meaningful work, dealing with uncertainty, performing creative acts, and doing great work. Show notes: Art is the outcome of a creative process. But so is a business, an article or chair. Creativity thrives with limitations. Create a box for yourself to create around. Play with time, space or other limits. Give yourself the permission to say no to things, in order to do what is the most important. Unnecessary creation - is a process of building something, trying something on the side, where there is low risk of failure. Turmoil and stress are all parts of doing meaningful work. If you're comfortable, chances are you're not stretching far enough. Do you have a passion project, why NOW is the time to start one . Interview with Pam Slim on how to find your calling and do something that matters . Like I mentioned in the podcast, I'm curious about when you listen to podcasts, and what you are going to create as part of your unnecessary creation! You can reach me directly at hello@26.ca . Thanks for listening, - ernest.…

Jason Zook is an unconventional entrepreneur, to say the least. He is most well known for iwearyourshirt.com - a venture where he made over a million dollars wearing sponsored t-shirts, and buymylastname.com - where he sold his last name twice to the highest bidder. He is also half of the Invisible Hours Podcast with Paul Jarvis, and a co-founder of Teachery - a service that helps you build and sell online courses amongst many other things. In this interview, he shares his origin story - how he got the name Jason SurfrApp and what he would do if everything were to burn down tomorrow and he was left with nothing. If you are feeling stuck in your job, or want to launch a new project - Jason’s approach to getting shit done and off the ground will have you change your life within days.
