×On this week’s episode Andrew is joined by Ben, Webby & Josh to discuss how things are going with the Winter Barley harvest so far. Andrew starts with the difficulties the team are having in pricing it as there is very little guidance out in the trade. The team mention the issues the stores have been facing with awns blocking up conveyors and elevators this year. Josh talks about how he thinks the spring barley crops are looking and how he doesn’t have high expectations for what is to come. Ben explains how Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada have affected the OSR price negatively but hopefully this is just short term. Andrew recounts how he found a grain weevil larvae in a wheat crop which shows it is not necessarily entirely down to how the grain is stored. Andrew is hopeful that the weather this year will mean there is limited opportunities for ergot to form. He advises farmers to sit back and wait instead of forward selling new crop cereals when they don’t yet know what the quality of their crop will be.
