In this week’s show, the YP football writing team of Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton and start off by looking at the race for automatic promotion in the Championship, the past week seeing Sheffield United get their noses in front, thanks to their impressive Friday night win over Coventry City, while Leeds United slipped up by conceding a late equaliser at home to Swansea City the following day. Elsewhere, Doncaster Rovers ensured their hopes of automatic promotion from League Two remain in their own hands, following up a 3-0 win over Carlisle United with a 2-2 draw against leaders Walsall. There are growing concerns for Huddersfield Town’s play-off hopes in League One after defeats to Charlton Athletic and Lincoln City which saw them fail to score a single goal. Steve Evans’ second period in charge at Rotherham United ended badly when he was sacked after a dispiriting 4-0 defeat at home to struggling Crawley Town. Replacement Matt Hamshaw enjoyed a promising start to his interim spell in charge, though, with the Millers winning 2-0 at Northampton Town. Also, Leon plumps for a Team of the Week this time around, while Stuart focuses on the standout Player of the Week.…

In this week’s podcast, The YP football writing team of Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton to pore over how Thomas Tuchel’s England performed in his first two matches in charge – World Cup qualifiers against Albania and then Latvia. Back on the domestic scene, only a handful of Yorkshire’s EFL clubs were in action, Barnsley ending a losing streak but with everyone just waiting for the end of the season after another disappointing League One campaign. Bradford City bounced back after losing against Tranmere Rovers with a thumping 4-1 win over promotion rivals Colchester United in front of a record crowd at Valley Parade – are they the real deal this season? We take a look at the National League and how York City can maintain momentum now they are guaranteed to seek promotion via the play-offs – with several weeks of the season still to come. Finally, this week sees Stuart pick out his Team of the Week, while Leon singles out a Player of the Week.…

On this week’s show, YP football writers Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton to assess a busy week which could prove pivotal to the Championship automatic promotion hopes of both Leeds United and Sheffield United, PLUS where does a Steel City derby home defeat Sheffield Wednesday leaves their 2024-25 campaign. Elsewhere, the immediate of interim coach Jon Worthington on Huddersfield Town was evident as the team hammered Crawley Town 5-1 in his first game in charge, while Barnsley and Rotherham United seem stuck in a rut in League One after both suffered defeats. And the panel discuss whether there is cause for concern over Bradford City’s push for automatic promotion after a second successive defeat.…

On this week’s show, The YP’s football writing team of Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton to discuss the latest news from the Yorkshire football scene. They start with assessing the race for automatic promotion in the Championship, in particular Sheffield United’s credentials of securing a top-two finish, as they battle it out with Yorkshire rivals Leeds United and Burnley. Elsewhere, it is the automatic promotion aspirations of Doncaster Rovers that come under the spotlight in League Two, Grant McCann’s side letting a two-goal lead slip at the weekend against Swindon Town, although they still retained a place in the automatic promotion top three spots. They also discuss the sacking of Michael Duff by Huddersfield Town in the wake of their 1-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers, a result which saw them drop out of the play-off positions. Was owner Kevin Nagle right to make a chance in the dugout, or was he too hasty? Also, the writers choose their team and player of the week. Please note, this podcast was recorded BEFORE Barnsley sacked head coach Darrell Clarke and Leeds United’s 2-0 Championship win over Millwall on Wednesday night.…

On this week’s show, the YP football writing team of Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton again, starting off with an analysis of what Sheffield Wednesday need to take the next step and make themselves a genuine promotion contender in the Championship. Leeds were held to a 1-1 draw by West Brom but still maintain their hold on the automatic promotion spots having not lost in the league since November 30. Hull City’s 2-0 win at home to Plymouth Argyle has created further breathing space between themselves and the bottom three, with Ruben Selles’ team now enjoying a five-point buffer. Can they maintain the kind of form needed to ensure another season of second-tier football? In League One, Barnsley have thrown themselves back into contention for the play-offs, although they were pegged back again with Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Charlton Athletic leaving them six points off the top six with 11 games to play. Huddersfield Town fell 1-0 at home to Wrexham meaning they remain sixth by just one point and still finding scoring at home a significant problem that will need addressing if they are to remain in contention for the play-offs.…

On this week’s show the YP’s Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton to focus on several Yorkshire derby encounters plus other news from the White Rose football scene. They start at the most recent of those derby clashes at Bramall Lane on Monday night when Leeds United walked away with all three points on the back of a 3-1 win that put them five points clear at the top of the table from hosts Sheffield United. Two days earlier, it was Barnsley who earned Yorkshire bragging rights when they edged out struggling Rotherham United 1-0 at the New York Stadium, while York City and FC Halifax Town shared the points in an action-packed 2-2 draw at the LNER Community Stadium in front of nearly 7,000 fans. Also, the panel cast their eye over the League One play-off hopes of injury-ravaged Huddersfield Town, before Stuart picks his team of the week and Leon has a tough choice picking out just the one player of the week.…

They then turn their attention to the Yorkshire derby between Barnsley and Huddersfield Town and compare the respective League One play-off hopes of both teams. In League Two, meanwhile, Leon gives his take on Doncaster Rovers’ climb back into the automatic promotion spots after their “biggest win of the season” – according to manager Grant McCann – at Morecambe. In this week’s podcast, YP football writers Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton to discuss the latest on the Yorkshire football scene, starting with Leeds United marching on together at the top of the Championship and free to do so following their FA Cup exit at the hands of Millwall. Sheffield United are not particularly fluid at the moment but they are finding a way to stay in touch with their Yorkshire rivals at the top – will that be enough? The promotion ambitions of Rotherham United have taken a hit recently but they stopped the rot with a hard-fought draw at Blackpool – but have their chances of making the play-offs gone? And in League Two, the panel look at the automatic promotion credentials of Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers and whether both teams can secure a top-three finish.…

They start with a rampaging Leeds United and their return of six points, nine goals and two clean sheets from their two games in the space of five days – are they a cert for automatic promotion? Hull City suffered a setback at Stoke City after a recent upturn in form and belief, but they still look well set for climbing away from trouble in the Championship. The EFL Trophy derby clash between Rotherham United and Bradford City is also discussed, as is a more general look at how Yorkshire’s 11 EFL clubs fared during the January Transfer Window – who were the winners and losers?…

They start by looking the two games played by Championship leaders Leeds United in the past few days, beating Norwich City before battlking out a stale 0-0 with promotion rivals Burnley. Have Hull City turned a corner following their 3-0 win over second-placed Sheffield United and can Huddersfield Town quickly stop the rot that has seen them lose their last two games and ground on the top two of Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers. Doncaster Rovers maintained their push for automatic promotion by edging out Yorkshire rivals Harrogate Town ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Barrow, but they have joined in the race for a top three spot by Bradford City, who boosted their own chances of getting out of League Two with wins over leaders Walsall and struggling Morecambe.
