Tis the season of giving and if companies still make the COVID excuse not to give, they need a better bit . multiple listeners have had horrible bonuses in the past. More than one had donations made in their name or got to decide who to donate to, which was different parts of the company they worked for. At a Christmas party, one listener's boss walked around flaunting fancy envelopes tied with a bow, which employees thought was a bonus—but it was just their regular paycheck. In a similar vein, employees were given $10 Starbucks gift cards and directly following 10% of them were laid off, getting told, don't think of it as being fired, think of it as a coffee break. There’s also the case of the Cheesecake Factory, which gave everyone cheesecake—purchased from Costco—and gave out branded corporate gifts like ballpoint pens and planners. These kinds of gestures are honestly insulting and if you think a sufficient gift is a 20% off pizza coupon that isn’t even valid for delivery, just don't give anything at all.
