In today's society, more and more cases come to light as unscrupulous people take advantage of the defenseless elderly. The Harris County District Attorney's office has a special unit that deals with elder abuse crimes. To tell us more about what to watch out for and how to protect the elderly, we are joined by Asst. District Attorney Joe Frank who is in charge of the Elder Abuse section.

We are joined today by one of them, Ali Sheikhani, who last week was in our line up but unable to join at the last minute. He is a very successful businessman and also a police officer. We will learn why he is running and what his platform is, as the November 5 General election rolls closer. He is running against incumbent Democrat Nabil Shike who took office in 2020.
5:20 pm This coming Friday, November 1, the MB Foundation will bring together a concert featuring singers Senjuti Das and Trijoy Dey at the Stafford Civic Center. Senjuti was a finalist in Sony TV’s Indian Idol 2022, was also among the top 10 in Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and is currently a Bollywood playback singer. She calls in today from Dallas to talk about her career and upcoming performance in Houston.

Citizens and permanent residents returning from overseas trips have been harassed, and foreign students are being deported based on participation in demonstrations, all symptoms of the current isolationist attitude. Attorney George Willy will discuss these topics and other developing immigration issues. 4:50 pm In the past 50 years, dosas have become a favorite food item all across India just like paranthas, pani puri and dhoklas. Most Indian restaurants serve dosas rolled up like a giant crispy telescope with some filling in the middle and sambar on the side, leaving many people unsatisfied. There's an art to making soft, nourishing dosas, so we turned to Master Chef Kiran Bheemarao to give us some background and tell us the technique of making a good dosa. 5:20 pm Pratham was the first local Indian charity tofocus on childhood education in India and teaching those less fortunate how to make a living for themselves. A few years ago, it also became the first local Indian charity to raise over $1,000,000 in one gala. Two weeks ago, at the Fort Bend ISD community meeting, there were heated words about implementing this curriculum, and lawyer Sumita Ghosh was ejected. There is a follow up meeting this week. We asked Rishi to point out segments from the curriculum which are inappropriate. 4:50 pm This year the March has been the holy month of Ramadan coinciding again with Holi celebrations and Easter while Iftar celebrations are also being held almost daily. Eid ul Fitr will fall tomorrow on March 30 and shortly thereafter, on Saturday, April 12, the Indian Muslims Association of Greater Houston or IMAGH will hold its Eid Milan Gala at the Houston Marriott Westchase Hotel. To tell us more about it, we turn to gala coordinators Saeed Pathan and Parveen Saiyed . 5:20 pm In the 60’s, the Hippie generation found peaceand love in Indian spirituality and many Hindu religious icons came into vogue. The Beatles drew in Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Jimi Hendrix notoriously painted himself into a 1967 album cover featuring Hindu gods and goddesses. Since then, other businesses have tried to use Hindu icons in marketing and caused much offense. The most recent is Freddy’s Smoke shop in College Station which uses a squatting Ganesh smoke with a cigarette in his hand. We asked our investigative reporter, Chetan Dave , to give us some background on what executive orders are, the authority behind them, whether they can be challenged, and whether there is a limit to how many can be issued. 5:20 pm The abrupt slash and burn strategy that ElonMusk has used so far to chop the size of the federal government is reminiscent of what he did to Twitter after he bought it in October 2022 for $44 billion. It is worth only $9 billion now. Thousands are being laid off in an economy where oil and gas and IT workers are also getting the axe. We asked our investigative reporter, Gautam Sinha, to give us a ballpark estimate of how many people are affected so far by this turmoil. 5:40 pm In another Executive Order playing to his rightwing base, over the phone, Trump abruptly fired the longtime president of the Kennedy center in Washington DC, Deborah Rutter, saying it was time to stop “woke” events presented there. In an unprecedented move, he then declared himself Chair of the 6-member Board. Co-host Sanchali Basu delved into this and shares what she has learned.
