According to the Federal Reserve, we have hit our highest inflation since 1982. *big collective sigh* That's more than 40 years ago!
Time is wild, and so is this economy, so it was fitting to do a podcast on making money during times like these.
Side note: Anyone still feel like 1999 was just 5 years ago?
Because of inflation, it has affected consumer spending habits to be more conscious spenders.
And for you, maybe like me -- I’m being more conscious of ALL my spending.

  • I’ve been cutting off costs from both business and personal that are not necessarily. For example, I took out Netflix.
  • At the same time, I’m making sure I pick and choose what trips are important for me to save up for.
  • I’ve also noticed more people taking their time to decide to work with me.

What do I think about all this? I think it’s great!
This means all businesses NEED to focus on improving their client services and experience. Including me and my team!
For example, I’ve been updating my services to ensure that what we create for our clients makes better client results.

  • I’ve been asking for feedback from current clients
  • Recently, I invested in a new executive and leadership training program to become a better coach and consultant for my clients

I spoke with sales strategist Jamie Gulino Davis, my former mentor and friend, to navigate these economic changes. We explored effective sales strategies during these economic times.
With nearly two decades of experience in sales, leadership, and team management, Jamie has led companies to hit multi-million dollar revenues.
What We Cover in This Episode:

  • Setting Yourself Apart from the Competition
  • The Value of Providing Individualized Attention
  • How I create and provide high touch points throughout my sales process to stand out

If you would like to see how to work with me to create a more sustainable life where you can be more present with yourself and create your checklist of success that’s not created by society and loved ones, then schedule a complimentary legacy business and career review at elainelou.com/call

If you’re from California, last week was an endless cycle of FIGHT OR FLIGHT. And even if you’re not in LA, moments of crises affect us all -- it’s part of being human, we don't live in LA, we are human and unfortunately face moments of crises. This past Monday, I had a therapy session to process everything. It was ironincally perfect timing. We talked about how important it is to protect our peace and prioritize our nneeds. She shared that many clients are navigating the same themes as well as her, and it was validating to know I wasn’t alone. After the session, I felt the pull to share so I hit record. Whether you’re navigating a crisis or just feeling overwhelmed, I hope this episodes brings you some comfort and practical support. Episode 105: How to Protect Your Peace & Prioritize Your Needs is now live on Spotify or Apple . In this 26-minute episode, I share: Honoring your voice during tough times: Especially if you’re someone like me (the oldest daughter!) who often manages others’ emotions and needs. Scripts for asking for what you need: Even when it might feel uncomfortable or different from what others expect. Creating healthy boundaries with news and social media: Why limiting our consumption can help reduce triggers. (Right now, I’m only using the Watch Duty App to stay updated on fires, and really limiting social media.) I’ll be honest: This episode feels more personal than others. Recording it helped me process my own feelings while sharing what’s been helpful for me. And I want to remind you that I am not a licensed therapist, and I know that my own experience can be unique to me and not you. What We Cover in This Episode: Personal History and Connection to LA Managing Stress and Crisis Response Limiting Media Consumption and Protecting Peace If you would like to see how to work with me to create a more sustainable life where you can be more present with yourself and create your own checklist of success that’s not created by society and loved ones, then schedule a complimentary legacy business and career review at elainelou.com/call Resources Mentioned: Free Probono Services for Those Affected by LA Fires Psychologytoday.com Where We Can Connect: Apply to the Business & Career Mastermind: elainelou.com/mastermind Schedule a Business & Career Audit call with me to see if it’s a good fit to work together: elainelou.com/call Follow the Podcast on Apple: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow the Podcast on Spotify: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow Elaine on Instagram: @elainelou_ Connect with Elaine on LinkedIn: Elaine Lou Cartas Check out our other podcasts for Women of Color…

2025 is in 2 days. I know -- WTH!? I know that “New Year, New You” energy is coming in strong. The social media algorithm just wants us to dive straight into goal setting, and getting cute planners. BUT. HOLD UP, AND WAIT A MINUTE. Before we spring into 2025, let’s sit with 2024 and CHILL for a second. Because let’s be real, 2024 came with lessons and a whole lotta plot twists. And I got receipts from my own messy, beautiful 2024 to share. So before you unpack your lessons, why not sip on some tea and listen to mine first #sharingiscaring In this episode, I spill: I know it’s easy for us to start wanting to set goals for 2025, but before we go there it’s important to reflect on lessons learned. And let me tell you -- I got my fair share of mistakes and lessons learned from 2024. As you plan for the new year, I want to make sure you take time to feel uncomfortable to reflect on your own mistakes and lessons learned. And what better way then to listen to my mistakes first before you listen to yours… #yourewelcome So, take a moment to reflect. Because if you don’t the universe/God/Beyonce (pick your higher power 🐝) will keep sending that same lesson your way. What We Cover in This Episode: How I mastered talking to people who yell (are unregulated) and kept my peace intact ✌🏼 How I’m working with less clients in 2025, but earning more in 2025 (spoiler: fewer clients, less burnout and even better client results) How Muay Thai has helped me to slow down and why it’s important for you to also play If you would like to see how to work with me to create a more sustainable life where you can be more present with yourself and create your own checklist of success that’s not created by society and loved ones, then schedule a complimentary legacy business and career review at elainelou.com/call Resources Mentioned: https://elainelou.com/blog/102-didnt-hit-your-goals-this-year-6-things-you-can-do/ Where We Can Connect: Apply to the Business & Career Mastermind: elainelou.com/mastermind Schedule a Business & Career Audit call with me to see if it’s a good fit to work together: elainelou.com/call Follow the Podcast on Apple: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow the Podcast on Spotify: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow Elaine on Instagram: @elainelou_ Connect with Elaine on LinkedIn: Elaine Lou Cartas Check out our other podcasts for Women of Color…

“I’m NOT an influencer. I don’t have a million followers.” That’s exactly how I started my talk at the Rize Credit Union Event on, “How to Get Consistent Customers.” “I don’t have a million followers. Actually, majority of you didn’t know who I was before this event. And you know what? That’s GREAT NEWS for you, because building a sustainable business doesn’t require a massive following -- and I’ll coach you through you.” Good news for you, the replay of this talk is on Apple and Spotify. Despite not having a million followers, here’s what I’ve accomplished: Raised millions of dollars for political campaigns and nonprofit organizations from my first business (I was a former fundraiser) Built a successful and sustainable coaching business where I’ve now served 10k+ clients in 58 different countries On track to hit hit multi-six figures from corporate contracts in 2025 What You’ll Learn in Episode 103: How I landed my first customers in every organization I’ve worked for (spoiler: no website or social media required!). The secrets to showing up authentically on social media without feeling fake or forced. Why letting go of attachment to outcomes will transform your business. Real, actionable steps to start or scale your business sustainably. This episode isn’t just theory—it’s packed with practical advice and real talk. My Rize Credit Union talk turned into a group coaching session, giving entrepreneurs actionable strategies in real time and you can listen to this on Apple or Spotify . So, if you’re curious about my coaching style or simply want to stop following "guru" advice and start building a business that works for YOU, this episode is a must-listen. It’s that time of year -- where we reflect and tell ourselves, “Okay, how’d we do in our goals?” And if you aren’t Beyonce or Taylor Swift your response to this question is, “Damn…I didn’t…” Hit my revenue goals Leave my job even though I talk about it all the time Save $x for a home Then anxiety settles in, and that big booming voice comes in, “What do I do now ?” Don’t worry, I get it. To be transparent, I didn’t hit my November revenue numbers I wanted last month but I am also not surprised considering it was an Election month and no one was thinking about it, plus I was on vacation for 2 weeks to Australia and New Zealand. I DID hit my goal of skydiving 2 weeks ago! You can watch the full skydiving video on my IG @elainelou_ This episode is for those feeling anxious about unmet goals - how to stay focused and embrace that you’re human. Let’s be real whether it is election season or not, we often want to AVOID touchy topics with family members during this time of year. My solution for myself? I’m leaving the country for a 2-week vacation to Australia and New Zealand this Saturday lol. Alright back to you, how can I help you lol… Well, I know a thing or two about protecting your peace post-elections as a former grassroots organizer, and I share 3 steps to protect your peace this holiday season in my recent podcast episode. For me, elections have always felt challenging (regardless of the outcome), and that’s because my very first job out of college was in political campaigns. I spent my entire twenties in that space, so I’m all too familiar with this whirlwind of emotions. The goal of this episode is simple: I want to share some strategies that might help you keep your mental and emotional balance steady during this time. What We Cover in This Episode: 3 tips to protect your peace 1 powerful script so you don’t need to discuss politics What I’m doing myself If you would like to see how to work with me to create a more sustainable life where you can be more present with yourself and create your own checklist of success that’s not created by society and loved ones, then schedule a complimentary legacy business and career review at elainelou.com/call Resources Mentioned: EP11: Identity Crisis? We’re celebrating 100 episodes for the WOC & Allies: Business & Career Realtalk Podcast. And since this podcast has the word “realtalk” in the title -- just wanted to share I was not looking cute recording this episode. I was wearing a Dodgers snuggie (a snuggie is a blanket with arm holes), a bun and PJs. This podcast has absolutely evolved from 2 years ago when I first launched it in March 2022. I thought i had to follow what everyone was doing: Having to put makeup on each time I hit record Script it word-to-word cause I’m a recovering perfectionist Have guests cause no one would be interested in listening to what I have to say 2 years and 100 episodes later: Been awarded 2 times as a Top Career Podcast by Mac’s List Will have my most downloaded episodes this month from solo episodes with no video and no guests Intentionally said no to being part of a big podcast network My recent podcast episode, My Mistakes & Triumphs from 100 Episodes, is a quick 22-minute podcast episode where I shared my evolution of how I learned to embrace being myself and how I’ve stayed focused to my 2 goals of this podcast: Provide free, accessible education to others Give a chance for those interested in working with me and my team to get to know me better not just as a coach, but as a human What We Cover in This Episode: Why my podcast name has made it easy for everyone to find my podcast (Hint: SEO) How I embraced doing what was enough for me which meant from switching from weekly to bi-weekly podcast episodes All my mistakes including thinking I needed guests when I just needed to be myself (The result: I will have my highest podcast downloads this month from solo episodes) If you would like to see how to work with me to create a more sustainable life where you can be more present with yourself and create your own checklist of success that’s not created by society and loved ones, then schedule a complimentary legacy business and career review at elainelou.com/call Resources Mentioned: https://www.linkedin.com/in/elaineloucartas/ https://www.instagram.com/elainelou_/ Where We Can Connect: Apply to the Business & Career Mastermind: elainelou.com/mastermind Schedule a Business & Career Audit call with me to see if it’s a good fit to work together: elainelou.com/call Follow the Podcast on Apple: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow the Podcast on Spotify: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow Elaine on Instagram: @elainelou_ Connect with Elaine on LinkedIn: Elaine Lou Cartas Check out our other podcasts for Women of Color…

This was my biggest talk to date to 200+ leaders and executives in-person. It’s interesting because attendees expected an exact formula for executive presence—like you need a certain percentage of extroversion or charisma (by the way you do NOT need both). Executive presence can be learned. In this replay I share tools and frameworks on how to create your own executive presence. In this talk I remind you to see your colleagues with curiosity vs. judgment, and to treat each interaction as a data point to understand someone else’s goals and perspectives. I shared personal stories, and I threw in some jokes because, honestly, I secretly dream of being a comedian ;) My favorite part of the talk? The beautiful coaching and support at the end. What We Cover in This Episode: My Conscious Conversations ™ heart-led model on how to create your own, authentic executive presence which includes Passion, Pause, Perspectives, Prepare, Practice and Perform. This is the exact model that got me this talk; my courses with LinkedIn, Penn, and Brown; and closing 2 more speaking engagements this past week. A team template you can use to better understand how to showcase executive presence with team members and executives. This dashboard has helped my clients get VP roles. Word-to-word power phrases you can integrate at your next meeting including how to deal with the most difficult team members. This is a favorite for my clients. I had the honor of speaking to over 200 leaders & executives on the topic of Executive Presence, and I had the pressure to also navigate tech sound issues... The room was packed – standing room only, with people sitting on the floor and lining the walls. At one point, the event staff had to close the doors and turn people away due to fire safety concerns. I shared more on how I prepared for this talk in my recent podcast episode. You can listen to this x-minute podcast episode on Apple or Spotify . I’m still reflecting on the energy and impact of that session. It was truly a powerful experience. During the talk, I shared an important reminder: executive presence isn’t about being the loudest and extroverted in the room. It’s about showing up authentically and confidently – and yes, that’s a skill anyone can LEARN. What We Cover in This Episode: Executive Presence Imposter Syndrome & Ties to Trauma Responses Dealing with the tech issues The power of asking for help and coaching If you would like to see how to work with me to create a more sustainable life where you can be more present with yourself and create your own checklist of success that’s not created by society and loved ones, then schedule a complimentary legacy business and career review at elainelou.com/call Resources Mentioned: https://www.nextupisnow.org Where We Can Connect: Apply to the Business & Career Mastermind: elainelou.com/mastermind Schedule a Business & Career Audit call with me to see if it’s a good fit to work together: elainelou.com/call Follow the Podcast on Apple: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow the Podcast on Spotify: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow Elaine on Instagram: @elainelou_ Connect with Elaine on LinkedIn: Elaine Lou Cartas Check out our other podcasts for Women of Color…

so i had a concussion 3 months ago dont worry im perfectly fine now I wanted to wait a couple of months before sharing the details. And if you think I’m going to share in this email, I won’t-- you’ll just have to listen to the episode (I know I’m a tease…) We all know that whenever post Labor Day hits everyone is always feeling SO overwhelmed. We think we can be superheroes and do everything, when the reality is that we can’t and we have to be realistic and honest with ourselves, our bodies and the people we love. Getting the concussion I had to readjust to my expectations in body, mind and health, and maybe you also have to readjust to realistic expectations as well. Like you, I often think, “I miss being in my 20s, I was able to do everything.” But now that I’m older the reality is, “I was able to LIE to myself in my 20s, and do everything when the reality is that I didn’t know how to hold boundaries, and didn’t listen to my body to identify what is my realistic energetic capacity. This episode is different—I'm being interviewed by Keeley Antonio for her Feelswell Experiences podcast. Honestly, I was going to record a separate solo episode about what happened, but since I talked to Keeley about it first, I figured: Let's work smarter, not harder, and just reshare it. OR maybe I’m just lazy? lol What We Cover in This Episode: Why work-life balance is a LIE How to identify your realistic capacity What to do when you are overwhelmed How I got my concussion If you would like to see how to work with me to create a more sustainable life where you can be more present with yourself and create your own checklist of success that’s not created by society and loved ones, then schedule a complimentary legacy business and career review at elainelou.com/call Resources Mentioned: feelswellexperiences.com linkedin.com/in/keelyantonio Psychologytoday.com Episode 54: Work-Life Balance: The Lie with Natalie Kuhn Where We Can Connect: Apply to the Business & Career Mastermind: elainelou.com/mastermind Schedule a Business & Career Audit call with me to see if it’s a good fit to work together: elainelou.com/call Follow the Podcast on Apple: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow the Podcast on Spotify: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow Elaine on Instagram: @elainelou_ Connect with Elaine on LinkedIn: Elaine Lou Cartas Check out our other podcasts for Women of Color…

In the States, Labor Day which means summer is UNOFFICIALLY over… This means the real work is here --getting ready for Q4. Q4 is the busiest time of year for me and my clients where: Companies are working on hitting their numbers Holidays are coming up so getting ready to deal with triggering family members And more importantly making sure to have enough time for sanity lol So how do you get ready? For me I have been using all summer prepping myself for Q4 by: Updating my systems Improving my own knowledge and skills by obtaining my PCC coaching certification with the International Coaching Federation as I’ve been working with more companies and executives. Looking at my numbers and making changes. For example, I have deleted a bunch of expenses because I didn’t hit the numbers I wanted in the beginning of the year. There’s been loads of updates and changes I’ve been doing behind the scenes to get ready for Q4, and I share more in my podcast. What We Cover in This Episode: Review Goals: Revisit your yearly personal and business goals The importance of being self-aware and leaning into what’s making you feel uncomfortable How to look at your numbers to create aligned change If you would like to see how to work with me to create a more sustainable life where you can be more present with yourself and create your own checklist of success that’s not created by society and loved ones, then schedule a complimentary legacy business and career review at elainelou.com/call Resources Mentioned: Psychologytoday.com Episode 95. The beginning of the year, it was tough. I wasn’t hitting the revenue I needed, and my profit margins weren’t sexy at all. I had to put my ego in check and make some hard decisions and conversations. The result → I reduced 50% of my expenses and now this year I am projected to have the highest revenue, and more importantly PROFIT MARGINS! How am I celebrating this? Well, I was just with my dad for a week where I was able to help him with recovery after his 2nd knee surgery. His recovery is going so well especially with the love surrounding him. We even got my nephew to be his physical therapist lol. This past year, I've talked to more people—myself included—about how tight money has been cause of: Inflation Elections And for those of us who are Millennials and Gen Xers -- we're juggling finances with our kids and parents. We were taught to hustle, work a lot, THEN the money will come. But I want to challenge you -- hard work doesn't mean working more hours. The REAL hard work is building a better relationship with money. In my 95th podcast episode, I talk about, “How I reduced 50% of my expenses, how keeping up with the Jones’ was affecting me and business updates” Listen on Apple Listen on Spotify Here are the show notes So you might be wondering what has been the results of reducing my expenses by 50% and simplifying my business? This past week while I was with my dad in surgery without even promoting anything on social media or emails I had 8 sales calls scheduled. Here's the receipts so you know I ain’t lyin. Also, don’t get it twisted despite getting all these sales calls in, we are selective with who we work with. We take great care in selecting clients who are genuinely committed to their results, and our reputation depends on the success of our clients. So if you are committed you can apply to work with me and my team by scheduling a call here. I’ve been noticing my clients, community and myself including feeling anxious maybe cause it’s August and the end of the year is creeping up. I’ve challenged my clients and myself -- what if anxiety can be good for us? What if we can embrace it. See…anxiety gets a bad rap. But this past summer, we’ve seen how anxiety can be (not always) good for us. Getting into a difficult conversation with a loved one, but how it helps us understand the other person. Inside Out 2 shows how anxiety can be good to help us plan for the future, and how it does protect us Watching the Olympics , we can see how athletes deal with anxiety. Whether it’s saying affirmations like what we see Suni Lee do, or meditating like Simone Biles. So how can anxiety help you -- what if I told you to stop ignoring it. That whenever anxiety shows up: DO NOT pick up your phone and scroll DO NOT put your headphones and start listening to music or a podcast What if anxiety is helping us uncover what we need to work and improve on? In this episode, I want to discuss how anxiety can be embraced. Not all aspects of anxiety are great; that's when you seek a therapist. But let's see what we can do about it. I have five tips, and five questions you can use when anxiety creeps up. I was coaching a doctor last week who wants to open up a bigger office. I asked why this was important. She shared, “When you stop growing, you start dying.” Then she sighed, and cried saying, “But at what expense to my husband, kids and my health?” I challenged her and asked, “What if growth doesn’t mean more and bigger, externally? What if growth means changing your business to work for you internally, so you can be a more present spouse and mother, and take care of your health?” The lightbulb sparked for her and we created a gameplan to create a more sustainable business AND life for herself, husband and kids. We unfortunately live in a society that tells us - more, bigger and better will guarantee success and happiness. IT’S A LIE. What if growth is taking time to pause and asking ourselves what is “enough”? I delve deeper in my most recent podcast episode. What We Cover in This Episode: How to get clear on your priorities in this current stage in life Challenging the concept of “growth” and “doing more” Embracing your definition of “enough” and “success” If you would like to see how to work with me to create a more sustainable life where you can be more present with yourself and create your own checklist of success that’s not created by society and loved ones, then schedule a complimentary legacy business and career review at elainelou.com/call Related Podcast Episodes Episode 85: How to Honor Your Emotions and Protect Yourself from Others Emotions with Lidia Galvez Episode 84: How I Redefined “Success” for Myself and How You can Too Resources Mentioned: My LinkedIn Courses Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hershey Where We Can Connect: Apply to the Business & Career Mastermind: elainelou.com/mastermind Schedule a Business & Career Audit call with me to see if it’s a good fit to work together: elainelou.com/call Follow the Podcast on Apple: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow the Podcast on Spotify: WOC and Allies: Business and Career Realtalk Follow Elaine on Instagram: @elainelou_ Connect with Elaine on LinkedIn: Elaine Lou Cartas Check out our other podcasts for Women of Color…
