But while at Stanford University where he was doing his PhD, the startup bug hit him and he launched his first venture, Aptivia, back in 1999, which was later acquired by Yahoo. He went onto found Cloudera which went public back in 2017 in an IPO that raised over $4 billion. Now on his third venture, Zir AI, Amr is hoping to revolutionise the way we search online.

Earlier this year Wamda published a report on the state of pre-seed startups in the Middle East and North Africa. Mudassir Sheikha and Magnus Olsson founded Careem in 2012 initially as a transportation service for the corporate world. It soon became the premier ride-hailing service in the Middle East and within four years grew to become the region’s first technology unicorn. In this podcast Mudassir speaks about his role, how it changed over the years and the wider implications of the super app strategy.…

In this podcast, we speak to Wamda X's Annelies Docx and two of the startups that graduated - Holo and Simply New Cars, to discover what happens when things don't go according to plan.…
