РЕКЛАМА
Episode Description: Jessica B. Harris may have been born and raised in New York City, but she has Tennessee roots through her father and has spent much of her life split between homes in the Northeast and the South – specifically New Orleans. For more than fifty years, she has been a college professor, a writer, and a lecturer, and her many books have earned her a reputation as an authority on food of the African Diaspora, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the James Beard Foundation. A few years back, Netflix adapted her book, High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America , into a 4 part docuseries. And I’m very proud to say that she’s a longtime contributor to Southern Living with a regular column called The Welcome Table. This episode was recorded in the Southern Living Birmingham studios, and Sid and Jessica talked about her mother’s signature mac and cheese, the cast-iron skillet she’d be sure to save if ever her house were on fire, and her dear friend, the late New Orleans chef Leah Chase. ×We are in amongst the cockneys for this month's episode of the podcast for genealogists with too much time on their hands. We'll talk about the different guilds, street names, sources and databases, oranges and lemons, whittington and his cat; that's not to mention the bells!
A history of the English Manor provides as foundation for investigating medieval genealogy in England. The Customs of the Manor, the Open Field System and the Feudal System provide a context for the snippets of information that the early historical documents offer us. In the episode of the Podcast for The Genealogist with Too Much on Their Hands, Malcolm Noble discusses the typically English institution.…
How can we find out the truth about those family traditions that no one can prove but no one can say they definitely didn't happen, This months episode of the podcast for the genealogist with too much time on their hands takes a thorough look at these teasers
The power of the squire emerged from the dispersal of property following the dissolution of the monasteries and accelerated in the new century so that they were able to press parliament's case against the orthodox aristocracy. Looking for changes and differences - always my calling cards, you may have noticed - the story of these major families may explain why our grandparents moved, changed their work patterns or addresses or even emigrated. While the conventional sources of history are as important as ever, this episode highlight some more uncommon sources to inform our subject…
We discuss the work of local historian Richard Carew, who produced an early Survey of Cornwall. As usual, we recommend a Book, a Podcast and a Website, and we test our knowledge by considering four questions from a 1953 History A Level paper. We bring the chatter together to list four common signals that a pedigree might be suspect. This Podcast for Genealogists with Too Much Time on Their Hands comes from a corner of a country lane in the middle of England.…
