Paul's overwhelming message in Galatians Chapter 3 is that God's people are justified (or made right) with God through FAITH IN CHRIST ALONE. There is nothing we can do to earn our salvation. And so we don't have to spend our lives trying to be "good enough" or "righteous enough" to be saved. It is only through God's GRACE that salvation is possible. Let's jump in to Galatians chapter 2! Paul continues to defend and clarify the gospel! A faction of people have made their way into the Galatian churches who believe that circumcision is required for salvation. Paul writes to clarify and defend the "truth of the Gospel" in the face of a false gospel. Paul wrote to address a theological crisis facing the Galatian churches, which were comprised of Jewish and Gentile converts. A faction of false teachers had come into the Galatian churches teaching that Christian converts should follow the Mosaic law, including circumcision, in order to be saved. The gospel of Jesus is the gospel of FREEDOM. It sets us free from slavery. Paul, the author of Galatians, spent years in the prison of legalism. He wrote Galatians to clarify the gospel. He wanted to make sure the new believers in Galatia did not grow up subject to the bondage of religion and miss the FREEDOM in Christ entirely! Galatians was written to CLARIFY and DEFEND the "truth of the Gospel" in the face of a false gospel. We can learn so much from Paul as he reminds us that we are FREE and teaches us to walk in that FREEDOM. In what ways have we put ourselves in chains? And let ourselves be burdened once again by a "yoke of slavery?" We may not even be consciously aware of all the ways we buy into expectations set by others or established by the culture and heavily burden ourselves - so that we spend our days stressed with unmanageable expectations. We tell our stories transparently - honestly processing the initial shock, uncertainty, mourning, and deep sadness; yet, God's faithfulness and goodness are woven throughout our experiences of loss. Miscarriages happen far more often than we realize. Statistics show that 10-20% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. That’s 1 in every 5 couples. Individuals walking through miscarriage and stillbirth need people to rally around them. The suffering is so unique and different, and it's oftentimes silent suffering. When you experience the loss of a preborn child, you wrestle with so many questions. What happens now? How long does it take to pass the baby? How do you know when you’ve miscarried? Is it painful? While they had very little materially-speaking, they sacrificed and opened up their arms and their home to a baby who needed a home. Three tests support the trustworthiness of Scripture: the bibliographic test, the external test and the internal test. These three tests are commonly used to examine the historical nature of ancient pieces of literature. The Bibliographic Test examines the Biblical manuscripts themselves, and looks at the quantity and quality of the surviving manuscripts and how closely they are written in time to the events they describe. The Internal Test examines the substance of the Bible itself and asks the questions: "What does the Bible claim to be? Why did the Biblical authors write and pen the history they recorded? Finally, the External Test examines the historical evidence from outside the Bible. So we will look at extra-biblical authors and historians and archaeological evidence that supports the events recorded in Scripture.…

Fostering kids - like parenting generally - has been incredibly humbling and such an incredible sanctifying tool the Lord is using to refine me. The Lord is ever-teaching me that I do not always know what's best (even though I may think I do), that I do not know what His good and perfect will aims to accomplish and that it's not my job to be preoccupied with fostering outcomes (Will the kids in my care be reunified with bio mom and dad? What will their lives look like one year down the road? Five years?). The Lord has used and is ever using fostering as a means to daily humble me and convict me of my pride and selfishness. As we work with difficult bio parents, daily care for children that are not our own, strive to obtain our yearly foster training hours, meet monthly with case managers and attend hearings - the whole system can feel overwhelming. And then when you see a bio mom or dad making compromising choices which have and are substantially impacting their children, it's really hard not to make judgment calls about the best case scenario for kids in your care. I'm guilty of it. And the Lord is actively teaching, refining and humbling me - reminding me that I am not God. That my ways are not His ways, and that I do not always know what's best for the kids in my care. And that worrying about outcomes for the children in my home is not my burden or responsibility (except for ever-advocating for them). Jesus is teaching me to leave all the heavy lifting to Him, and for me to rest in doing the work He has set before me - to daily love and care for His children. And stretch to love and encourage difficult bio parents along the way. He's daily reminding me that every single child in my care - bio, adopted or foster - is HIS first and foremost, and that His will will be done for each and every one of them. I am humbly reminded that I don't need to be concerned with outcomes. My job is to work in the daily - loving, caring for, teaching and discipling all the kids in my house, and aiming to love, support and encourage biological parents of the foster kids in my home. The Lord is reminding me that my only real job is to live out the gospel daily with all of those in my home and those the Lord places in my path. My job is to be an advocate for the foster children in my care, to pray for them, their parents and their hearts, speak up when I need to advocate for a child, and then to leave all that I have little to no control over at the Lord's feet. #fosterparents #foster #grittygospel #homeschooling #parenting #parenthood #motherhood #stayathomemom #discipleship #fostering…

Caring for the vulnerable changes you. Once you’ve seen real humans who are suffering in poverty, need unconditional love, regular baths, food, and rest - you can't un-see it. You can’t ignore it. And the Lord is actively calling us to see needs and meet them. To suffer to help the vulnerable. Sanctifying all of us - parents and kids alike - through this discipleship, parenting and fostering/adopting work. And once you’ve cared for the vulnerable for any real amount of time, you begin to see yourself in the brokenness of their situation. You see that you are not so different than the broken parents who find themselves in this situation. All a result of sin - which plagues us all. That while - in your flesh - you desire to condemn the mom who has made poor decisions (drugs, abuse, sexual promiscuity, neglect, etc) you can’t help but see your own poor decisions, your own quickness to anger, your own frustration or bad attitude. And the realization hits you - we all sin. We all fall short of the glory of God. It's all so humbling. And as believers, we are all actively called to this work. James 1:27 makes it clear that we are all called to look after the orphan and the widow. And that's also why, when we are obedient, this work is incredibly fulfilling. Even though it’s hard and scary and requires sacrifice, it’s also incredibly exciting and satisfying because we are meant to be doing this work. The believer will find great fulfillment in this work. It knits us to Christ more. We are being made more like Him in our suffering and sacrifice. Fostering makes me more dependent on Him. Daily. Galatians Chapter 5 is so rich! Paul encourages the Galatian believers: "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1) We do not have to strive to earn our salvation. In fact, that won't even work! Paul makes it clear to the Galatian believers that it is through our FAITH IN CHRIST alone that we are saved. We, as followers of Christ, are called to be FREE. Yet, we must be faithful not to use our freedom to indulge our flesh, but to glorify God as we serve each other in love. And we must learn to walk by the Spirit, and ask our Heavenly Father to help us to bear the fruit of the Spirit!
