Part 2 of Samaita's mediumship initiation story, being left to survive for 8 months by himself in the bush, relying on his ancestor for guidance. The story is followed by a discussion about spirit mediumship, touching on topics such as how a person is chosen by the spirits to be their medium, what qualities a person must have, the relationship between ancestors and guardian spirits, and more. ::: Mediumship in Shona Traditions In the Shona traditions, spirit mediumship is the practice of allowing your specific ancestor(s) or guardian spirit(s), who are chosen by your ancestors, to manifest through your physical body. Rather than simply channeling, the spirit inhabits your body for an certain amount of time to share wisdom, insights, and perspectives from the spirit world and information from the time period the spirit was alive. Those who are spirit mediums are specifically chosen by the spirit world for this task. There are certain initiations one must go through that test and shape one's character in preparation for being a medium. Initiations tend to have multiple processes over time, and can span days, months, or many years. Becoming a medium is a process that takes time for the body to mentally and physically conform to the powerful energy it must learn to allow to inhabit it. Initiations prepare the medium to be of service to people and spirituality, and for the medium to gain a better understanding of who their spirit(s) are, and what medicine they carry to share with humanity. ::: Jonathan Dube, also known as Samaita, which means he is of the zebra clan, is a kind hearted Shona man, who lives a busy life as an initiated spirit medium, traditional healer, herbalist, community counselor, & musician of native cultural music. He is also a father, grandfather, and husband. A pillar of support and guidance for his community, he serves from his dhare (essentially a spirit house and place of healing) at Dzimbanhete Arts & Culture Village, a project he started with a dear friend to keep the traditional Shona traditions alive. Fatua is an initiated spirit medium; she spent three months living in the bush with Samaita and his family, and a few of her fellow initiated friends, in order to expand her practice and continue her initiation process. ::: Samaita (Jonathan Dube) Dzimbanhete Arts & Culture Website Fatua @fatua.soul fatuasoul.com Sponsored by: Soul Melody Cacao @soul_melody_cacao https://www.soulmelodycacao.com…

This Mystical Life welcomes back Juan Zuniga, director of Novalis, a center for preserving the rainforest and indigenous culture in the Amazon, for a discussion on the mysterious world of brujería (sorcery/witchcraft) in the jungle. Juan & Fatua discuss a side of the Amazon that is more hidden to the outside world, the world of love spells, brujería, and energetic & psychic attacks. Although brujería is practiced around the world, varies depending on the culture, and can be used for healing or harming, today our discussion explores more of the disturbances that can be caused by it in the jungle, and serve as a reminder for those that traverse the medicine lands to always have attuned awareness to their environment. Another important highlight of today's talk is about ayahuasca and the various additives that are being added to the medicine worldwide. Certain additives may enhance the overall experience, and by adding other plants, the messages a passenger thinks they are receiving from ayahuasca, may not be from her at all. Juan & Fatua discuss why this is inauthentic and potentially harmful. Check out episode 2 to learn more about Juan and hear his perspective on ayahuasca in the Amazon. --- Juan Zuniga @wearenovalis wearenovalis.com Fatua @fatua.soul fatuasoul.com Sponsored by: Soul Melody Cacao @soul_melody_cacao https://www.soulmelodycacao.com…

In this episode Fatua shares her experience of Amazonian plant dietas within the lineage of the Shipibo, a people native to the Peruvian Amazon. The plant "dieta" or "diet" is a shamanic healing practice that allows one to merge consciousness with a plant in order to receive its healing, wisdom, teachings, songs, and more. However, the plant will only share and open to the person who diets it if they follow a strict dieta, a protocol of restrictions that serves as an energetic exchange and forms a bridge of trust for such a connection. Dietas offer physical healing, insights into the personalities and teachings of the plants, entryway into new realms, and profound miracles. They are an integral part to the shamanic and medicinal healing way of the Shipibo people, and used in congruence (most of the time) with ayahuasca. Show notes: For clarification, a traditional dieta in the rainforest requires isolation as much as possible in private accommodation. When the term "social" dieta is spoken about, it does not mean to diet and live a regular social life, but rather one is dieting outside of the jungle and still carrying out daily life but with as many restrictions as possible. If you are interested in partaking in a traditional master plant dieta & sitting with ayahuasca in the Amazon rainforest of Peru, please visit Fatua's website for information on upcoming retreats with her and Novalis with Shipibo Maestro Loyver in 2024. === Timestamps 00:40 Ayahuasca & DMT 15:23 Personal disclaimer 16:25 Shipibo 21:25 What is dieta? 25:44 Plant monogamy & dedication 28:27 Dietas; all level healing 29:00 Why dieta? 38:22 Fatua's dieta experience 41:47 Icaro; language of the plants 47:40 Dieta, the teachings of a self love seed 50:04 My first dieta experience 1:01:40 Wester medicine vs. shamanic healing 1:07:16 Power of having/working within a lineage 1:11:28 Novalis & medicine retreats 1:17:02 Closing gratitude Fatua @fatua.soul fatuasoul.com Sponsored by: Soul Melody Cacao @soul_melody_cacao https://www.soulmelodycacao.com…

In this episode, Fatua is joined by her long time soul sister Breanna Shannon, who shares her story of what it was like to bring her son into the world, whose father is of the Machiguenga, a tribe native to the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. Breanna discusses how she applied the concept of Amazonian plant dietas to her pregnancy, taking time to honor the connection with her growing baby in each trimester. She shares about her natural birth in a teepee, and the importance of incorporating the elements of nature, such as the sacred fire throughout her journey. Breanna has a beautiful way with words that paints the imagery in this story that weaves North and South American cultures in the creation of her son Sayre,' lovingly referred to as her "machigringo." This recording occurred in the Amazon rainforest of Peru by candlelight, while Sayre' was sleeping, hence our low tone of voices amongst the wild sounds of the jungle night. === Recommended book: The Red Medicine by Patricia Gonzales === Timestamps 18:33 Meeting the Machiguenga community in the rainforest 35:48 1st trimester, dieta with pregnancy & transition to motherhood 41:20 Return to the USA 42:00 Finding a midwife 48:44 Nesting in nature & sleeping outside 50:15 2nd trimester vision quest "dieta" immersion 53:38 3rd trimester & preparing for birth in a teepee 1:03:01 Birth story: Nature elements as birth allies 1:06:17 Sacred fire & the beautiful masculine 1:08:49 Water birth 1:17:00 Postpartum in the teepee 1:25:36 Sweatlodge & seeing the world after 40 days 1:33:08 Gratitude for the native ways 1:35:40 Return to Peru with son, Sayre' 1:42:11 Tribal living in the Amazon rainforest 1:50:16 Sayre' integrates the forest 1:55:44 Sayre's name === Breanna Shannon @bre.e.a.utiful Novalis @wearenovalis https://www.wearenovalis.com Fatua @fatua.soul fatuasoul.com Sponsored by: Soul Melody Cacao @soul_melody_cacao https://www.soulmelodycacao.com…
