In this episode Paschalina talks with Lauren, winner of the third prize in the Haiku competition. Haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables; it consists of three lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Traditionally it evokes images of the natural world. Regarding the latter, we slightly departed from the original form, as the topic of our competition was participants’ experience of learning a language. All entries in our Haiku competition were compiled in a very nice booklet, which can be found here: https://www.learnbaes.ac.uk/images/Pdfs/Haiku_Project_FINAL_PAGE_TRANSITIONS.pdf?fbclid=IwAR2SC9FJUlizw6Oq0UhbQfD6MrmTGw7pg-J_oomKgGcfictPjvXKMhwm25E…
In this episode Paschalina talks with Lucia, winner of the second prize in the Haiku competition. The Haiku competition was organised in term 1 of the current academic year. Haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables; it consists of three lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Traditionally it evokes images of the natural world. Regarding the latter, we slightly departed from the original form, as the topic of our competition was participants’ experience of learning a language. We chose the Haiku for our competition as we thought that a short poem would help the learners to communicate and express their thoughts, even with limited knowledge of a language. We had an enthusiastic response from learners and more than 50 Haiku were submitted in many languages and at all levels.
