As we mark the fifth anniversary of COVID-19 and the lockdowns that changed our world, we can now look back with perspective on how crisis shapes human behavior—and how little has changed across centuries. Ken Tentarelli’s newest novel, The Blackest Time , set during the Black Plague in 14th-century Florence, reveals how people confronted fear, loss, and uncertainty in ways that mirror our recent experience. Ken is available for interviews and can address topics such as: Parallels between the Black Plague and modern pandemics How an engineer with no background in history became a historical fiction author The ways people in 1350s Florence coped with crisis—behaviors we witnessed again during COVID Inspired by real events, The Blackest Time doesn't simply chronicle devastation—it uncovers the resilience that emerges when everything familiar disappears. Ken's research reveals that people in 1350s Florence developed coping mechanisms we'd recognize today, from social distancing to scapegoating to acts of unexpected kindness. For more info, click here…

Thomas E. Patterson’s monumental biography of Huey Long is a profound reevaluation of his life and legacy, recognizing him as an inspirational progressive thinker, populist hero, and radical influence on the New Deal before an assassin’s bullet ended his life in 1935. First as governor and then as U.S. senator, Long transformed the politics of Louisiana by standing for the interests of citizens whom state officials had historically ignored. He eased suffrage restrictions so that more people could vote, and voters endorsed his program of more robust government services and shifting the tax burden to those better able to pay. In the United States Senate, during the darkest days of the Great Depression, he advocated loudly and ceaselessly for the redistribution of wealth, expanding public works, increasing the money supply, insuring bank deposits, paying old-age pensions and veterans’ benefits, delivering a minimum income for families, and funding college and vocational education. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, along with other politicians and pundits, dismissed Long’s proposals as nonsense put forth by a reckless demagogue in search of votes. Despite several biographies, acclaimed novels, and historical studies in the years since Long’s death, his reputation today is mostly caricature: a spellbinding speaker, a dictator, a populist firebrand who was unprincipled and corrupt. Using previously untapped personal papers of Long and his son Russell, other primary sources, recent scholarship, and his experience as a lawyer, Patterson provides a necessary corrective as he analyzes the contours of Long’s career, deconstructs the elements of his success, undercuts several myths related to his time in office, and explains the circumstances that led to his ultimate downfall. The result is the most comprehensive, balanced, and analytical study of the Kingfish to date. Buy the book here…

Bio: Cody Peterson is a recovering alcoholic/drug-addict with over eleven years clean and sober. He has been fascinated by spirituality and religion since adolescence, although he struggled to maintain a spiritual connection, spending many years trying to get clean and sober. Finally, after a six-month stint in prison and a period of homelessness in Las Vegas, Nevada, Cody sobered up for good in 2013. In addition to practicing the Twelve Steps, Cody has rekindled his love of academic literature regarding spirituality and religion, and in 2019 he was led to the writings of C.G. Jung. Resonating deeply with the seminal ideas espoused by the Swiss psychiatrist, Cody felt his own calling to start writing soon thereafter. Today he takes his daily spiritual practice very seriously, believing that his recovery (and his life) depends on it, with his own version of prayer and meditation having evolved over the last thirty years to now include highlighting books and sharing his insights through his writings—the central feature of his day-to-day routine. Cody also feels an urgent need to give back by “carrying the message” to newcomers to the Twelve Steps through volunteering at any number of drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers and detox-facilities every chance he can. cityseamless.com cityseamlessroofing.com cityseamlesspatiocovers.com…
