In this episode, Anne and Frances help a struggling listener who has spent years toning herself down in the workplace after being told that she was too assertive — now, she feels that her modest approach is holding her back. ×A pastor’s son will sometimes follow in his dad’s footsteps. The Reverends William Knippa and son Michael are examples of multiple generations in ministry. Michael knew from an early age that he wanted to be a pastor someday. From early life and knowing God’s direction, to father and son collaborating professionally, theirs is a family in ministry. Michael currently serves as Associate Pastor at Redeemer Lutheran in Austin, Texas. Pastor John Cain hosts. www.redeemer.net…

Micah Drengler have a lot in common: they are both pastors in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), they both serve in the parish ministry, they both earned a M.Div. from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, and Mark is the father of Micah. While that is quite a list, Pastor Drengler and Pastor Drengler share that they are the most recent pastors in a legacy of pastors that now extends to six generations. The LCMS' program, Set Apart to Serve, will be discussed along with other resources that are available to those who are interested in pursuing a career as a professional church worker. Rev. Dr. Douglas Krengel hosts.…

Joy can be a spiritual gift from God (Galatians 5:22), and we are seeing that gift in the lives of many. txlcms.org . Pastor John Cain hosts.…

The Christmas season often brings back sweet memories, reminders of Christmases past. Because of the memories, Christmas can hit some people hard with a sense of loss when loved ones are not together. There is, however, a healthy way to face a seemingly empty space. The Rev. Benjamin Meyer (Hope Lutheran, Sunbury, Ohio) will talk about how he worked with many people the year that he had 6 funerals between Thanksgiving and Christmas. God has granted forgiveness and a future for every Christian, helping to highlight the necessary reason Jesus was born, to be the answer to our need. Pastor John Cain hosts.…
God intends the Christmas Gospel to be a blessing to all who hear it. However, consumerism, strained time management, and financial restraints can keep Christians from enjoying the Lord’s loving intention. In addition, the Christmas season, at times, triggers individuals who are grieving. Once triggered, individuals may become unsettled when their loved one is not sitting with the rest of the family around the Christmas tree. Pastor Christopher Paavola provides listeners with sensitive and sensible pastoral care that can assist Christians in reorienting themselves to the presence of Christ during this Christmas season. Put down those Christmas lights, leave wrapping paper on its tube, and take in Christ’s good counsel as presented by Pastor Paavola. Rev. Dr. Douglas Krengel hosts.…

One of the most heartfelt issues to deal with is the unwillingness to forgive. Some folks have been hurt so long and so often that they finally say, “I will never forgive.” But how do you reconcile that with what Jesus says in Mark 11:25, where he says “if you have anything against anyone, forgive him so that your Father in Heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” Join our conversation on forgiveness as host Jonathan Schultz queries his father, Pastor David, on this issue.…

These are the first two of several opportunities to help, offering "Hope for the Hurting." Join us as we welcome back to the program the Rev. Chris Singer, President and CEO of Lutheran Church Charities (lutheranchurchcharities.org) , about these and the larger picture of Christian disaster and crisis response. Pastor John Cain hosts.…
Pastor Tim Ahlman entered the Office of the Holy Ministry through a traditional path: his great-grandfather, his grandfather and his father were LCMS pastors. However, through formal study, and through years of experience serving as a congregational pastor, Pastor Ahlman has discovered that there are many ways in which the risen Lord Jesus calls workers into his harvest field. In this interview, Pastor Ahlman describes some of the new ways leaders in the church are being raised up at Christ Greenfield Lutheran Church and School in Gilbert, AZ. Men, women, full-time workers, part-time workers, pastors, teachers, Directors of Christian Education, early childhood educators, and missionaries, are just a few examples of such workers. The life of the church at Christ Lutheran is also considered within its denominational context. While there are many types of church leaders engaged in the ministry at Christ Lutheran, the denomination it is affiliated with (i.e., the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod) is finding the formation of new church leaders to be quite challenging. Join Pastor Ahlman as he prays for the Lord to send more workers into the harvest field. Rev. Dr. Douglas Krengel hosts.…

Right now, most Christian denominations are trying hard to keep up with the demand for more church workers. Dr. James Baneck, Executive Director of Pastoral Education and "Set Apart to Serve." Michael Newman, President of the Texas District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (txlcms.org), who will share with us the importance of the Reformation's "Three Solas: Faith Alone, Grace Alone, Scripture Alone." What God has done for you, He has done completely! The interviewer is Pastor John Cain.…
In an era of polarization, what's a Christian to do? How should Christians engage in the political process and elections? Pastor John Cain hosts.…
Jesus made water into wine. God used Johannes Gutenberg to transform wine-making technology into thousands of Bibles. The primary topic of this interview is the history of Gutenberg’s moveable type printing press and its effects on the Reformation and society in general. This interview also features Dr. Cameron MacKenzie reflecting on the role of modern technology in the work of the church today (e.g., the technology being used to present the listener with MacKenzie's interview). A tertiary topic found in MacKenzie's comments involves the collaboration of science, engineering, entrepreneurship, and scholarship in such a way that the most popular example of the printed work of Martin Luther is in fact the German Bible. Charles Porterfield Krauth wrote in The Conservative Reformation and Its Theology, “The invention of printing, and hardly less, the invention of paper made from rags...prepared the way for the diffusion of the Scriptures” (page 8). Dr. MacKenzie is the Forest E. and Francis H. Ellis Chair in German Reformation Studies at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and is a published expert on the history of the Bible. Rev. Dr. Douglas Krengel hosts.…
Ever wonder what the heart of God looks like? For what or who does it beat? Dr. Will Sohns who has spent a lifetime involved in the Mission of God (Missio Dei) through his time as a pastor, church planter, District President, LHM, and more. Liberia is a country on the coast of western Africa. Following two civil wars that were nearly back-to-back, (1989-97 & 1998-2003) the nation was severely broken. How do missionary organizations bring hope and restore civilization to a war-torn people? Linda Kurtz, with HopeAndCare.org , describes the restoration process that began with the need for one orphanage and then a second, a school and then a second facility, a working farm to teach agriculture methods, a health clinic, patient health education, and working with local pastors to have a radio program broadcast in eight dialects. Further education and outreach are planned with a second radio station to reach remote citizens. Listen as Linda updates our listeners with what the good news of Jesus Christ is accomplishing in a short period of time. Pastor John Cain hosts.…

Pastors undertake specialized education, equipping them to serve in churches. Some people find themselves going back to school after having a previous career. Not everyone is called by God to change careers, but some, from nearly all walks of life, have been led to discover a second career in professional church work. So, an attorney later went to a seminary and is now the Rev. Richard Colquitt, a Teaching Elder with the Presbyterian Church in America. Richard talks about how he knew God wanted him to follow this path of service with his life. Rev. John Cain hosts.…
