×Well here it is, the reason why I started the podcast - this is the story that I have told so many times. It highlights just how unfair things can be and also how funny. The irony being that this whole episode led to me being promoted! Support the show
A big part of working at Shadwell involved the racing Arabs. A totally different breed in all aspects from the Thoroughbred. I really enjoyed working with the Arabs and I learnt a lot about horse psychology and training from my time with them. In fact I went to work with them again later in my career. Part of working at Snarehill meant the odd trip to Melton, we used to refer to this as being exiled as you only got sent there when Denis didn't want to see you and/or you'd been naughty. In some ways though it was great! Support the show…
In this episode I go into some of the delightful horses that I worked with at Shadwell, this gives you a good idea of what working in rehab was like. It was nothing like working in Racing, a lot of the horses were frustrated and and huge! There were some nice ones and some that I met again further on in my career. Support the show…
Welcome to Episode 2 - I start to go into my experience of working at Snarehill, the work schedule, people and horses. I was very enthusiastic to be working with such nice horses, the reality was a little different and I certainly learnt a lot! Don't forget to take a screen shot of this episode and share it to your social media, tagging me in! Support the show…
Welcome back to season 2 of the Only Foals and Racehorses podcast - in this series I go over my times at Shadwell Stud. This episode concentrates on how I ended up at Shadwell and what Shadwell is. It was a very traumatic time of my life, I had moved from my dream job and lost my fiancée so you can imagine how I was feeling. Please screen shot this and share to your social media - tagging me in. Support the show…

Weirdly there are huge chunks of my time in Australia, that I just 'forgot'. Which is strange given how clearly I remembered stuff from earlier. After talking to Linn, we both concluded that some of the stuff that we went through while working in the racing yard in Sydney was so weird/traumatic that we must have collectively just filed it away under - 'never think about again'. Don't get me wrong, I loved Australia so much but it was weird how little of Sydney I remembered, but the bits I do........... enjoy! Support the show…
Probably one of the strangest points of my life at that point - as my Australian Adventure continued I moved to Sydney, more specifically Warwick Farm Racecourse, in the Liverpool area of Sydney. Racing in Australia was completely different to anything I had experienced before. This is part 1 and in this episode I describe what working in a racing yard was like, we also bought a car and rented a house! This whole journey was character building, and definitely shaped how I viewed the rest of my life working with horses. If you want to know how to get in working with racehorses or on a stud farm then do pop me a line, the best way to get hold of me is via my website or my socials. Support the show…
In this episode we get to the end point of all the yearling prep. The Easter Inglis Yearling Sales, the premier sale in Australia. A big deal. It was stunning scenery, stunning hotels and stunning horses. I loved Australia and my time there, although I weirdly don't remember much from those two weeks - I wonder why!!!! - I do remember just how much it opened my eyes. I also discuss the wildlife and how it tried to kill me or so I thought! We are nearly at the end of this series so I would love some feedback. Any requests for more information or just how you go about getting into working with racehorses will be answered. Support the show…
My Year Out in Industry continues with my venture down to Australia to work for the mighty Coolmore. This was one of the best experiences of my life and changed my whole outlook forever. I was very lucky to work with the last crop of Danehill for this stint and gained some interesting insights into training horses and horse care. Of course there were the usual humorous escapades too. There is a mild language warning - nothing too heinous though! Don't forget to screen shot and share this episode to your stories on social media and true Crouchy style - Pass the Pod. Rounding up the first half of my year out in Industry was a little stint at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket. This was a complete change to Kildangan in various ways. While still early in my career I was already identifying what I thought was right and wrong. I also go through the process of applying for a visa for Australia. It's quite a scary process but well worth the effort and expense. If you do like this podcast, please do screenshot an episode and share it to your socials, tagging me in. The much eagerly awaited part 2 to my adventures at Kildangan Stud. In the 3 or so months I was there I did get to experience some really interesting and career shaping things. I am proud to be one of the few people to handle the King that is Dubawi. It wasn't all yearlings though, I got my first taste of what goes into looking after mares and foals. And then there are people, Harry and Scary Mary. Support the show…
In this episode I go into why I went to Kildangan, how I got the job and my initial reactions to it. Kildangan Stud is part of the Darley umbrella - now officially Godolphin. It is a huge stud farm near Kildare and home to some of the best horses in the world. Listen to my mad dash to the ferry and shock at the living arrangements! Episode 4 carries on where Episode 3 finished. The best summer ever. I got my first taste of riding work and going racing. I really enjoyed that time. I also took a trip over to Ireland to stay with a dressage rider and pick up some more training on that front. Ironically enough this was in Fethard - home of the Mighty Coolmore. Just adding to the whole accidently coincidences that make up my career. I hope everyone is enjoying these. I am trying not to waffle! Please do take a screenshot of the episode and share to your story on Instagram/Facebook and tag me in it. Over the next few episodes, things have progressed a lot and I end up on the other side of the world - so subscribe on your Podcasting pages or via my web page so you don't miss out.
