It’s been a busy couple weeks for Kyle Dubas! Trade deadline is over, and the Leafs have made a lot of changes bringing in 6 new players! This episode is dedicated to breaking down the deals that were made, as well as some that weren't but maybe should've been. We evaluate all the Leafs' deals and start things off with a special edition of the LTL Highlight Reel, where we rank our top 3 Leafs' trades! Then we'll break it all down with our special guest, LTL Insider Mike Augello, and get his perspective on the all the moves the club made. Did they do enough? Too much? Will they have time to gel? We'll discuss it all, and put Mike in the hot seat, as to whether all these moves are enough to get them over the hump and into the second round for the first time in 19 years! Talkin' Leafs New Acquisitions and Dubas's Dealings Leading up to NHL Trade Deadline Day! 50:08

Only a few days away from trade deadline day! A lot is going on and a lot is still going to happen! To date we have welcomed new members Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari who have made quite an impression on and off the ice already. No doubt Kyle Dubas still has a lot up his sleeve and we're here for it! With the all the deadline buzz in the air, some of this electricity has spilled over onto the ice too, giving us lots to discuss! We take a look at the best and the worst in the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Then we roll the LTL Highlight reel, where we celebrate a warrior veteran and a high impact forward making their debut on the Reel! In the Third Period we take a deeper dive on Noel Acciari and Ryan O'Reilly, and the effect they have already had on the club, as well as look at what additional moves may still be in the offing. No doubt Kyle Dubas still has much more up his sleeve. Its go big or go home for the Leafs GM, and with that in mind we have a programming note to let you know about. To make sure we have you covered and up to date on all of Dubas's dealings, we will be doing a special Bonus NHL Deadline Recap episode with our Insider Mike Augello. Talkin' Maple Leafs and NHL Post All Star Break, and "Who Says No" 50:45

Seems like forever since our last show! Probably because the Leafs have only played 3 games! In between, we had the All Star break which wasn’t that exciting. We talk a bit about Miami Mitch and the Mascots, as well as what might be coming to TO in 2024 in our opener. Let's just say we are hoping for an improved product! Then, for GBU "light", we look at what was good, bad or otherwise over this small sample size of games. It's been a mixed bag to say the least! With the lack of games, and since we are coming up to trade deadline day, we thought we'd have a little fun and discuss some hypothetical trade possibilities involving the Leafs in a new segment called "Who Says No". Tune in and let us know which one of us you think is on the money or out to lunch! To wrap up the show, we take a trip through the NHL conferences and pick some teams that we are going to keep an eye on in the official second half. Will the deadline dealings of these teams help or hinder them? One of the teams we discuss could have a direct impact on the Leafs, so we'll be paying attention. Can you guess which team? The next segment of games sees the Leafs easing into the schedule, with hopefully a healed up AM34 rejoining the club. Then things ramp up with the Buds heading out on western swing for a set of games. We are more than ready to put the "dog days" behind us and enjoy the ramp up toward the playoffs. The NHL Allstar game is almost upon us, and the Leafs are heading into the weekend in pretty good shape. The team will have some additional time off with their bye week attached to the All Star break, and will hopefully head into it in style, with a win over Boston on February 1st. They won't play again until February 10th, and this couldn't be coming at a better time! With Auston Matthews joining the injured ranks, we're hopeful he will be feeling good to go when their schedule resumes, and he and the rest of his teammates will be ready for the final push to the playoffs. But we're getting ahead of ourselves! Before Mitch heads to FLA, we still have lots of Leafs' news to dive into. In this episode we look at what's good and bad in Leaf Land, as well as give you our highlights from the latest 6 game segment. In our Third Period, we are pleased to welcome back, Mike Augello, our freshly minted Ladies Talkin' Leafs Insider, to discuss what's happening behind the scenes with the Leafs as we approach the NHL Trade Deadline coming up on March 3rd. Checkin' in with the Leafs at the Halfway Mark, and Behind the Scenes in the NHL Situation Room 58:34

We are just past the halfway point of the season and we already know that the Leafs are playing Tampa in the 1st round of the playoffs! With 38 games left to play, it is still possible that the Leafs' fate can change, but we're not holding our breath! We mentioned early in the season that Chris would be monitoring the team's losses to sub-par competition, and she delivers her first report on how many points we have given away to date. To say that these losses have made a negative impact is an understatement. We're hopeful that with more on the line in the second half, we can make more of these games count! Despite these losses to the lesser lights, things are still looking pretty good for the Leafs since the start of the new year! In our GBU segment, we discuss the positive steps the coaching staff have taken in an effort to preserve our players for the post-season, and what we would like to see more of, and of course a spark in the play of a certain player has caught our eye! We also look at what's been happening with specialty teams lately. There's at least one experiment that we wish they'd give up on! Listen and let us know if you agree! It's our final show for this year and we’re going to have some fun going into the Christmas/New Year break! Talkin' bout a Noteworthy November, Farewell to the King, and the Legends of the Women's Game with Maria Quinto 1:06:31

November was bittersweet for Leafs Nation. While the team rounded out November on a roll with Magic Mitch continuing his points streak and tying the Maple Leafs franchise record, we also said farewell to the King, Borje Salming, who left us too soon, passing away after a brief battle with ALS. We are grateful to MLSE for allowing us all the opportunity to say goodbye in person, and we are sure that the commemorative patch that they created in support of ALS, will find their way into many stockings this holiday season. In the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, we shine the spotlight on AM34. He's quietly collecting the points, helping his teammates shine, and doing all the little things at both ends of the ice. On the flip side, we try to make sense of the team's struggles this season 3 on 3, and make our case for how to fix it. November had no shortage of LTL Highlight Reel worthy moments. With the way Mitch Marner has played, the whole segment could've been devoted to him! We did manage to find at least one other teammate to shine a spotlight on, and paid our respects in honour of a Leaf Legend. For this episode's instalment of the Third Period, we were pleased to welcome children's book author and long time Manager of the Toronto Aeros Senior Women's Hockey Team, Maria Siracusa Quinto, who stopped by to discuss her series of children's books titled, "There Once was a Girl", which brings to life the stories of Canadian Women's Hockey Heroes. It was an honour to talk to Maria about her experiences in hockey, and learn more about the rich history of the women's game, and the inspiring stories of legends Angela Jame and Geraldine Heaney. To wrap, we have another exciting announcement! It's time for our annual Holiday Giveaway, and we have a prize lined up that any Leaf Fan would be blown away to find in their stocking this year! It feels like a lot has happened with our Leafs since our last episode. Coming back to the east coast seems to have been just what the doctor ordered. Top it all off with Hall of Fame weekend and a poignant tribute to Borje Salming, its been a memorable and moving couple of weeks! In our GBU segment, we are happy to report that some of our stars are starting to look like their old selves, and one even made our LTL Highlight reel again for only the second time this season! It was nice to not have any ugliness quickly come to mind, which we hope is a sign that the team has turned a corner. In our Third Period Segment, we have a new instalment of "On the Road with Chris and Syl", as we recount our latest trip to Raleigh, North Carolina! We were fortunate enough to be able to travel to see the Leafs play the Hurricanes on Nov 6th, on a tough back to back. We had a great time, and we're excited to share the highlights of the trip and all our travel tips with you! The schedule seems to be a bit better for the leafs with less travel and hopefully we’ll see our front line goaltending tandem back between the pipes as well. As we approach American Thanksgiving, we are hopeful that the turmoil of the season start will finally be behind us, and we'll be sitting in a playoff spot at the quarter pole. Talkin' Tough Times in Leaf Land 57:14

Things unfortunately have not gotten any better for the Leafs since our last episode. Their record is 4-4-1 after the loss to the L.A. Kings, which oddly enough was the same record they had last season at the end of October. No doubt there's lots to dissect as we try to make sense of the teams stagnant start. While LeafsNation laments all the things that are going wrong, we did manage to find some bright spots to discuss in the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Considering how nervous the goaltending situation made us at the start of the month, Ilya Samsonov has really taken the puck and skated away with it. Can’t even imagine where we would be right now if our goaltending was still a problem! The aforementioned goalie also makes his first appearance on the LTL Highlight Reel, sharing the spotlight with a stellar goal, and our one "W" in the win column. Here's to hoping that he continues to hold the fort, giving his teammates the support they need to dig their way out of this funk. Finally, in the Third Period, we discuss what seems to be the never-ending narrative about this Leafs team having an issue with its culture and how at least some of this belief is driven by the media. As Leaf fans, we sometimes long for the days when there was no social media, no analytics, and as a fan you just watched the game and could talk to other Leaf fans about what’s happening with the team. It makes us appreciate the experience we had following the Leafs in that ‘93 playoff run all the more! No doubt the Leafs are going to be very happy to say goodbye to October, but the start of November is not any easier! After the California road trip, they come back home to play a hot Philly team and then they have a back to back on the weekend with the Bruins and Carolina. The NHL schedule makers weren’t very kind to the Maple Leafs giving them a back-to-back to start off the regular season and 3 games in 4 nights! It kicked off a somewhat tumultuous start with the team having a less than stellar performance vs. the Canadiens and once again, the injury bug hit the goaltending department with Matt Murray placed on LTIR dealing with an adductor injury. July has gone by super fast! We are now into August and we have some exciting news to share! We have been hinting at this for some time, and we can finally reveal that we have joined the Bleav Network! Our show has come a long way since we started in September 2019, and this milestone would not have been possible without you our incredible listeners! Now that he Cup has been handed out, we can officially say patio season is here! The next few weeks are going to be a little crazy, and Chris and Syl are trying to stay calm despite the lack of news on the Leafs front. So many questions need to be addressed, from what the defence is going to look like next season, to the never ending speculation about the goaltending , to what Kyle Dubas might do at free agency. The Stanley Cup Final is set to go, which means that we should start hearing a bit more chatter from NHL teams. There has been some Leaf news and, of course, the Ladies are always set to bring you up to date with what’s been going on with the Blue and White! We start the show discussing the NHL Draft, which is being held July 7th and 8th at the Bell Centre in Montreal. This year’s draft is said to be quite deep with many talented hockey players and the Leafs have 3 picks. We will highlight a few players that the Leafs could be looking at to add to and improve the organization’s prospect pool. When it comes to prospects who are currently a part of the organization, Kyle Dubas said he hopes to see the progression of players from the Marlies pushing for jobs at Leafs training camp in September. It’s been just over 2 weeks since the Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs, but it feels like such a long time ago! The Ladies have been busy and the Leafs added to this by taking care of some business in the past couple weeks, giving us even more to discuss--which we love! In this episode we get you up-to-date with the latest team news and we give the team our grades for the 2021-22 regular season. Find out who made our honour roll, where we saw improvements and where things didn’t go so well. Leafs Nation is very much into the details, so as a bonus, we looked back and compared notes with our gradings from the 2019-20 season. The comparison made for some fun discussion! Continuing with some fun, the regular season was impressive with a lot of player and franchise records being broken! Many of these record breaking moments made our LTL Highlight Reel and we’ve chosen our top 3 highlight reel moments of the 2021-22 regular season. No doubt the Leafs regular season was a success, but once again it ended in heartbreak, losing in a Game 7, in the first round of the playoffs! It’s not the ending that we or any Leaf fan wanted or expected, but once again the Leafs lost in the first round of the playoffs in a Game 7. Yes, the core group of players lead the team in points. Yes the refereeing was horrible! And yes, they gave it their all, but ultimately it ended with the same, all too familiar result. Chris and Syl grade the team on their keys to the series in the segment, “Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down”, and in an extended “Third Period” segment we ask the question, where did it go wrong for the Leafs in this series? So many ways you can go with this question! Specific points in the series, special teams, depth players and the Ladies cover all the angles! A couple weeks left in the NHL season and the Leafs are in 2nd place in the Atlantic Division, which would give them home ice for the first round of the playoffs! There have been so many regular season milestone moments for the players and the team, but the focus remains on what can be achieved in the post season. In this episode's segment of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, we give some love to Pierre Engvall, who has been in our doghouse and Sheldon Keefe’s for much of this season! We also explore the connection between the 2 Ilya’s and, while Justin Holl has been trying his best to make our LTL Highlight Reel, unfortunately the Ladies haven't been impressed! Our Highlight Reel includes a couple of players who have recently picked up their offensive production, and the milestone moments continue to add up for Auston Matthews! It’s been an incredible season for #34, and while there is no doubt that he's proud of his accomplishments, he says he is focused on even bigger things! Leafs Nation is happy to hear that Auston! For The Third Period, the Ladies are focusing on bigger things too. Namely Game 1 of the playoffs and the defence! Chris notes a few analytic stats to support her choice of defence pairings. We are in the final month of the NHL’s regular season and it’s hard to believe we are closing in on the completion of our first full 82-game season of the podcast and the best is yet to come! The Leafs are on a bit of a roll coming out of the trade deadline and the additions of Mark Giordano and Colin Blackwell have been positive! In this episode we talk about the Giordano effect on the Leafs blueline. We are also blowing the whistle on the referees, and agree with Darcy Tucker that former Leaf coach Pat Quinn would not be happy at all with the refs! The Ladies are celebrating 50 episodes of the podcast and it’s been quite the ride since our first in September 2019! We’ve been diehard Leaf fans since the late '70s/early ’80s and for this special episode, we give you some background on who we are and how the show came to life. As long-time Leaf fans there has rarely been a dull moment in Leaf Land and the ups and downs of this regular season are definitely testing the stress levels of Leafs Nation! In this instalment, we get the show started with The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly! Auston Matthews is taking over the segment coming up in a couple of categories. Let’s just say the past couple of weeks haven’t been great for the Leafs and we break it all down for you with a discussion about bad reffing, blown leads, and the goaltending woes that nobody expected. It’s not all doom and gloom though, and there have been some bright spots in the Leafs' play. We celebrate a couple of milestone moments in our Highlight Reel segment! The focus of our Third Period segment is the trade deadline. We put our GM hat on and give our thoughts on where the Leafs need an upgrade. Is it the defence, goaltending, or a top-6 forward? What player(s) would we like to see in a Leafs uniform? Will Kyle Dubas make a move or will he stand pat? We get into the nitty-gritty of all trade deadline possibilities pertaining to the Leafs. The NHL standings are tight and heading into March the games always get more intense! The Leafs went 7-4-1 in February and while the top line of Matthews-Marner-Bunting is one of the best right now in the NHL, the goaltending has been less than ordinary. These are a few topics we discuss in our segment the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Despite some of the ugliness, we actually found a bright spot! We also had flashbacks to a Leaf great, who used to take the puck end to end! Who was that Leaf great? Tune in to find out and to hear who made our LTL Highlight Reel! Another exciting moment that all of Canada celebrated was the Gold medal win for the Canadian Olympic Women’s hockey team! The Gold medal game was the most watched event of the Beijing games in Canada. We talk about the big victory over the United States and what many people are saying was the best Team Canada ever to represent the women’s game. We conclude the show by celebrating Black History Month, which is highlighted every year during the month of February. It is so important to bring awareness to, and improve on, growing the grassroots of the game throughout the year. Former Leafs defenceman Mark Fraser works with MLSE in Player Development – Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and we discuss his involvement with the team and also talk about a personal Scarborough hockey connection that we didn’t know about! As this latest game segment comes to a close, we're starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel with restrictions beginning to lift just in time for the hockey schedule to heat up. After a spotty few months, games will be coming fast and furious, and we can hardly wait! Before we get into Leaf Talk, we take a trip down memory lane to the close of Maple Leaf Gardens and the opening of the ACC in 1999. We share some of our favourite memories from MLG and the early days in the Leafs' current rink. In The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, we explore the decidedly positive trajectory the Leafs' stats are taking, and a couple of line mates that may not be showing up on the plus side of the column, but at least one player is finding other ways to have a positive impact on the game. Can you guess who? We have a couple of familiar faces in the LTL Highlight Reel this time around, and we've also honoured a couple of players for showing up when it counts, which we hope will set a standard for their teammates. We are in our first full, 82-game season covering the Leafs and we are loving it! We are closing in on completing the first quarter of the NHL season and with American Thanksgiving coming up, the Leafs are in a pretty good spot! Over the past couple of weeks the team got a couple of big wins vs. Tampa and Boston and a shutout in Philly! But with the success comes some concerns on the goaltending front and with the depth scoring, prompting Keefe to crank up the Line Blender once again. We discuss these issues in The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, as well as a certain player that keeps coming up in this segment, and not in a good way! In the LTL Highlight Reel, a few players have caught our eye and one player will make his debut! It’s a positive sign when we can recognize contributions from someone not part of the core-4! A lot has happened in a couple weeks and there is still concern in Leafland. But after the OT win vs the Hawks, a tight win vs the Wings, some lost chicklets, and heightened emotions, the tide may finally be turning toward the positive. It's a new season for the Ladies, and a fresh start for our Leafs is just around the corner, with NHL camps set to open this week. Hockey's Back! After a quiet off-season, NHL and team news is now trickling in daily and anticipation is building for the coming season. It's been pretty quiet on the Leafs front, but as usual we found plenty to talk about in this episode. As mentioned the big camp is set to open, but last week we had our first glimpse of some new prospects at the Maple Leaf's development camp (run by Hayley Wickenheiser), and the Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. Depth is going to be crucial for the future of this team, and we'll give our early impressions on which prospects stand out to us. Next we have some fun with a Q&A based on the Athletic's Annual Leaf Fan survey. I (Syl) asked Chris some questions to see where she stands compared to the rest of LeafsNation. But as those first leaves start to fall, that means the NHL season is just around the corner and opening night for the Leafs is only 5 weeks away. So exciting! LTL Patio Season: Talkin' Offseason Business 50:14

It’s been just over 2 weeks now since the Leafs were knocked out of the first round of the playoffs and it still stings! Some of that is because the Habs ended up coming out of the Scotiabank North Division and are now facing Vegas in the Semi-Finals. In the past, we've taken a bit of time to reflect on the year and have given the Ladies' Grades for the team and players, but after a mostly A+ season, what can you really say when the Team fails the big exam? Given that there's not much to celebrate for our Leafs, in our end of season show we get into the message that Shanahan, Keefe and Dubas had for LeafsNation in their end of season media availabilities, as well as some of the player's comments from their locker clean-out Zoom call. Then, as there are a lot of big decisions for the Leafs going into the off season, we`ll get into some of the questions and concerns that need to be addressed before the drop of the puck next October. Yes friends, it's been another sour end, but while its difficult now, together we will bounce back! Soon the slate will be clean again, and it will be time to look ahead to the potential that a new season brings. Patio Season is short here in Canada, so get out there (safely) and enjoy some cold drinks and sunshine.
