This Is Woman's Work with Nicole Kalil

Let’s talk about adulting— actual adulting. Not just paying bills or keeping a houseplant alive, but the kind that involves emotional maturity, healthy boundaries, and conscious self-leadership. Because let’s be honest, most of us weren’t taught how to be fully functioning adults… and it shows. Joining us is Michelle Chalfant , licensed therapist turned holistic life coach, creator of The Adult Chair® model, and author of the new book The Adult Chair: Get Unstuck, Claim Your Power, and Transform Your Life . With millions reached through her podcast, coaching programs, and retreats, she’s here to walk us through the five pillars of being a healthy, grounded adult. Here’s the truth: being an adult isn’t about checking boxes or pretending you’re fine. It’s about owning your truth. Feeling your feelings. Practicing compassion without letting yourself off the hook. It’s about setting firm boundaries—with no need for justification—and recognizing that your triggers are not flaws, they’re clues. None of us were handed a guidebook for how to grow up emotionally. We inherited patterns from people who were figuring it out as they went. But what Michelle shares today is empowering: it’s never too late to unlearn what no longer serves you and become the adult you were meant to be. Whether you’re starting this work or knee-deep in your personal development era, this episode will meet you where you are—and help you move forward with clarity, self-trust, and strength. An occasional series where we make each other watch TV shows we loved as kids. In this episode, Mark finally gets to indulge his Saved by the Bell obsession. We cover 8 episodes across the four seasons. Expect lots of nostalgia, way too many mentions of 90s bands, a weird segue into the TV channel Trouble, and some unexpected annulment chat. We start by diving into our history with the show, and end with a ‘where are they now?’ for the main cast. S1E01 - Dance To The Max (11:00) S2E01 - The Prom (26:00) S2E09 - Jessie's Song (32:54) S2E15 - The Fabulous Belding Boys (38:55) S3E01 - The Last Dance (46:00) S3E09 - Fake IDs (51:06) S4E04 - The New Girl (57:00) S4E26 - Graduation (60:00) We’d love to hear from you. In this episode, Elaine waxes lyrical about disused tube stations and the autistic experience of sitting in the cinema, and we reflect on the importance of seeing your home town on the big screen. An occasional series where we make each other watch TV shows we loved as kids. In this episode, Elaine convinces Mark to watch the first season of the BBC's adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia . But how will he react to the talking beavers, the dubious CGI, and a rather unsettling Mr Tumnus? Next up: Mark's beloved Saved by the Bell. Mark could have been at the wrestling, but happily he chose to stay home and record the podcast. Didn’t stop him talking about the ‘house show’ though... In TV, Elaine has more to say about series 2 of the Beeb’s Showtrial (3:50) than she anticipated. And we talk cult leadership, Hulk Hogan and Succession-vibes in Netflix documentary Mr. McMahon (11:08). In film, if you’re a fan of Mark’s sweary rants you’re going to love his review of Megalopolis (27:18). And we discuss Joker: Folie à Deux (37:00). The Revenge of Joker. Joker Strikes Back. Joker Forever. Enjoy! How to support the show Follow us on: Twitter - Letterboxd We’d love it if you could leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or a star rating on Spotify . 1 “Cake out in the rain": Colin from Accounts (S2), Sherwood (S2), Twisters, Blink Twice, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 53:45
We start this episode with an unexpected trip down Eastenders memory lane. Although, don’t expect any up to date references, we’re still going on about Saskia being killed by an ashtray in 1999! In TV, Mark gets very grumpy about Elaine's refusal to watch Colin from Accounts (3:25) and Elaine waxes lyrical about the triumph that is Season 2 of Sherwood (7:04). In film, Mark gives us the lowdown on Twisters (14:25) and Blink Twice (21:45). And we have a difference of opinion in our review of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (27:15). Just a quick note to say that our Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is spoiler free, but we do have a brief spoiler section towards the end (there’s a warning before we go into it) if you fancy listening to us try to decode a song from 1968. Welcome back to another packed episode of The Honeymoon Period podcast. In TV, Mark reflects on Season 3 of The Bear (5:50) and Elaine has an unexpected review of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (12:40). Shout out to The Daryl Dixon Podcast and hosts Kelly and Dawn for their fab commentary. In film, we have mixed thoughts on M. Night Shyamalan’s latest twisty-turny movie Trap (21:00). And we also have a good ol' scream in space for Alien: Romulus (34:15). Enjoy! We’ve been on two dates (with each other). And they’ve both involved...wrestling! Remember when Mark wanted this to be a wrestling podcast? Well, his dream comes true for the first couple of minutes of this episode. Shout out to NORTH Wrestling and Alex Ayre, the director of Watch the Lights which we mention during our date chat. In TV, Elaine’s been watching Jake Gyllenhaal be all tortured and lawyerly in Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent (14:00). In film, we have a major difference of opinion about Netflix’s Hit Man (23:00), Elaine shoehorns in a review of The First Omen (31:00), and we finish with our thoughts on Deadpool & Wolverine (38:50) (all spoiler free!) 1 “Great Big Hoo and Toodaloo”: Race Across The World (S4), Fallout, Immaculate, Civil War, Monkey Man 49:20
Mark’s been to a BBQ, but as the booze flowed and day turned into night, what did he end up singing…? In TV, we return to one of our favourites: Race Across The World (1:28). Back for a fourth series (if you don’t count last year’s celeb version) this time the contestants are racing from Japan to Indonesia. Are we enjoying it as much as its previous incarnations, though? Next, we have a difference of opinion around Amazon Prime’s video-game inspired hit Fallout (10:44). In film, we’re talking nuns, action, and dystopia - the perfect mix! Mark’s been to see Immaculate (20:22) and Civil War (26:29). And we’ve both watched Dev Patel’s Monkey Man (35:49). Enjoy! Happy Easter! But which reduced price chocolate eggs will Mark be able to find in the supermarket on his annual pilgrimage? This week, in TV we’ve been watching Marvel Animation’s new series X-Men ‘97 (3:26) and ITV comedy-thriller (or is it?!) Passengers (9:32). In our film section, hold on to your proton packs and get ready to be slimed - we’re reviewing Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (16:42). There’s much to discuss so if you’ve seen the film you might enjoy our spoiler section at 34:02. We start the pod with WWE news (obvs!). The WWE is off to Netflix - but recent allegations leave Mark reflecting on whether he can continue watching... In TV, we discuss the finale of S2 The Traitors (7:35) and share our views on the first few episodes of HBO’s True Detective: Night Country (19:30). In film, Mark reviews newly Oscar-nominated The Holdovers (29:36). And we’ve both been to see Andrew Haigh’s astonishing All of Us Strangers (37:00). We recommend avoiding as much as you can about both films before you see them, so our reviews are very light on plot and we try to avoid spoilers as much as possible. We wanted to discuss the finer points of All of Us Strangers, though, so there’s a small spoiler section at the end of the episode, starting at 48:37. Please leave us at this point if you haven’t seen the film, but save the episode and come back for our thoughts later! Enjoy! Welcome to our first episode of 2024! We start the pod with a discussion around New Year’s Resolutions - and a birthday cake muffin… In TV, Elaine wants everyone to watch BBC drama Men Up (2:30) which was shown in the In-Between Times and therefore criminally overlooked. We also share our thoughts on appointment telly The Traitors S2 - including some delightful references to Nasty Nick and Anna the Nun for all you Y2K fans (9:44). WARNING: if you’re not up to date on S2 The Traitors, we recommend you skip our review and come back later. We do mention banished and murdered contestants, as well as traitors, by name. In film, Mark reviews The Boy and the Heron (21:36) and Poor Things (28:22). And then we take a trip down memory lane to discuss our relationship with the Godzilla films before reviewing monster hit (do you see what we did there?) Godzilla Minus One (38:00). Enjoy! In this episode, we pay homage to the power of television when going through tough times. Plus, in not unrelated news, Sky Arts’ Portrait Artist of the Year. In TV, Elaine’s been on a documentary extravaganza, with Netflix’s Beckham (12:33), Disney+’s Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story (22:55), and Amazon Prime’s The Greatest Show Never Made (29:34). We also have a brief chat about mind-bending Netflix drama Bodies (36:29), but will be coming back to this when Mark’s had a chance to watch it himself. In film, biographical drama BlackBerry (40:45) makes Mark reminisce about the time you couldn't send emails on your phone, whilst comedy-horror Totally Killer (48:45) causes controversy with a key plotline. And we finish with our thoughts on Gareth Edwards’ The Creator (54:00). Elaine has a really bad cold and is losing her voice, so please enjoy her gradual descent into madness throughout this episode. In TV, Elaine’s been watching BBC true crime drama The Sixth Commandment (3:39) and Mark’s started on Season 2 of The Afterparty (10:52). In film, Mark reports back on his attempt at a Barbenheimer day out. Then we turn our minds to our review of the two movies themselves, Oppenheimer (14:26) and Barbie (33:30). No spoilers for Oppenheimer, but we do - in a move that tries Elaine’s patience - have a very brief spoiler chat about Barbie at 50:49. 1 ”Was it Tim Key?”: Secret Invasion, Hijack, Nimona, Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 57:54
During this week’s pod, Mark tries to explain two thought experiments to Elaine, with varying results. And Mark mentions wrestling, so if you’re playing The Honeymoon Period drinking game get your glasses ready. In TV, we start with Elaine sighing before Mark can even get going on his Secret Invasion (3:41) review. Then we move on to talk about Apple TV’s mini-series Hijack (11:00). In film, Mark’s enchanted by Netflix animated drama Nimona (20:15). And we both try not to self-destruct with Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1. Spoiler free thoughts on MI from 25:37 and full spoilers from 42:22. If you listen to the spoiler section, please be warned that Mark decides to go into a really random side-step where he talks about 80s TV show Interceptor. Apologies in advance. In this episode, we once again make reference to ‘Allo ‘Allo and Elaine does a really creepy impression of Elmo. We also review the latest offering from the DC Extended Universe - The Flash - and the first two episodes of Season 6 of Charlie Brooker’s anthology series Black Mirror.
