×This episode is a classic; one to listen to year after year. Long before the Christ child was born in Bethlehem, Isaiah writes prophetically and poetically of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. The talented Jeff Anderson sings "Laid on Him". And the Lord has laid on him All of our iniquity and all our sin Laid on him Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, Hallelujah And the Lord has laid on him All of our iniquity and all our sin Laid on him…

Part of the passage Chad looks at says; “I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.” This is what our minds should dwell on. The beautiful love and mercy that has come for us and called us by name. Chad has an encouraging word for us and Markita Knight sings a beautiful song entitled "Behold". Thus says the Lord Thus says our God Behold Jesus…
Once again we meditate on an Old Testament passage that is all about Jesus Christ. When we read " 5 The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious; I turned not backward. 6 I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting. 7 But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame." We realize that Christ humbled Himself in so many ways, even giving His cheeks to His tormentors. Chad meditates on this and the meaning of "Word of the Father". Lynn sings "Step by Step". Only God sees the whole story, and the backstory from every angle, and only God is qualified to judge us. We may judge others and ourselves much too harshly, or we may not care enough to speak up when someone is in need of guidance. in Psalm 98 we see the whole earth become animated and rejoice because God is coming to judge, and He will get it right. The day is soon coming when all of our earthly life will seem like a distant breath, though certainly today has plenty of blessings, and also concerns. Our hearts our prone to wander, and cling fast to earthly attachments which only distract us from the riches we already have received in Christ. 1 Isaiah 5:1-7 Legendary Bryan Duncan and guest legendary guitarist Kid Ramos on "Beauty in the Wasteland" 16:17
Everything seems right - God has planted a vineyard and tended it, but then bad, stinky fruit emerges. What has happened? How can we make things right? Chad gives another encouraging lesson and meditation on this passage, helping us to trust fully in the work of God. Even if we are plowed up and torn apart for a season, perhaps He is accomplishing the good that He wants for us, the good we cannot do for ourselves. Bryan Duncan and guitarist Kid Ramos team up on this song that speaks of God cultivating beauty from the wasteland. In you, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame! In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me, and save me! Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man. For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth. Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother's womb. My praise is continually of you. I have been as a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge. My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your glory all the day. Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent. For my enemies speak concerning me; those who watch for my life consult together and say, “God has forsaken him; pursue and seize him, for there is none to deliver him.” O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! May my accusers be put to shame and consumed; with scorn and disgrace may they be covered who seek my hurt. But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone. O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come. Your righteousness, O God, reaches the high heavens. You who have done great things, O God, who is like you? You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again. You will increase my greatness and comfort me again. I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed. And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disappointed who sought to do me hurt. Do you see the Lord Jesus Christ in this Psalm? Plain as day. Readers of "the Christ Key" by Chad Bird can spot this writing all over the Old Testament. We give thanks this holy weekend, that we have a Deliverer, and Advocate and King in Jesus Christ. To Him be glory forever and ever.
