My friend Patrick has had a nonlinear career path. I wanted to have him on the how and hear a little bit more about the pivot he took in his career to get to where he is today. Today he's a copywriter and a writer. In this conversation, we get to dig into all the twists and turns that his career has taken him, as well as geek out a little bit on creative work. We talk about the discipline of getting in the chair and putting the time in to make creative work and how you have to be in the right place in order for the inspiration to strike, not the other way around. And so much more. It's just a really fun conversation. You're in for a treat here today. Show Notes: themeaningmovement.com/patrickmcnerthney…

It's always about money OR is it that it's never about money? My guest today is Joe Stephan. He is a financial advisor with a podcast by the name, it's Never about Money, which I love. As a financial advisor I love that he leads with this question. He acknowledges that the work that he does is not just about money, but about helping his client understand what is meaningful and how to go about living a meaningful life. I had the chance to connect with Joe on his podcast. It was such a fun experience and wanted to continue the conversation and have him over here on the show. He is a financial advisor as part of a family firm. There are so many layers of complexity — understanding what he wants in the business, what his family wants, and navigating the overlap between between those two. We just had a great conversation. We talk about goals, we talk about money, we talk about making a meaningful life. Daniel Hatke is an entrepreneur, deep thinker, and friend. I loved this conversation with him because I got to ask him all the questions that I don't usually have an excuse to ask him. He has a very unique perspective on entrepreneurship because he's seen it from multiple sides. He's lived multiple lives, I guess you could say, even though he's still relatively young. He has played the finance CTO Wall Street game as well as the mostly self funded entrepreneur game. We got to, with that in mind, dig deep into the choices that he's made to pursue entrepreneurship, how he finds meaning and fulfillment in it, the contrast of his current risk portfolio and stress portfolio against that of his former life in the financial services world, and more! It was just a great conversation. I'm so excited to bring it to you. Show notes: themeaningmovement.com/danielhatke…

There are two areas of life where we experience fulfillment and meaning. One is in our work and careers. If you listen to the Meaning Movement, if you listen to the show, I know you have wrestled with some of those ideas. But then there's the rest of life outside of your work and your career. Most of us realize that it's a both/and situation: there's meaning and purpose to be found in our day-to-day work life and there's fulfillment to be found outside of that. In my conversation with Paige NeJame, we get to dig into these ideas directly. Paige is a volunteer with the Carbon Almanac network. I met her volunteering there as well. She's a writer. She is a long time entrepreneur, small business owner. In this conversation, you'll gain insights from her work journey, her involvement in the Carbon Almanac, and the meaning that she's found along the way.…

I am so thrilled to bring you this conversation today with Ryan Barton. Ryan as an acquaintance for some time. He went through the Calling Course with me a little while ago and has just continued to impress me with the way that he thinks so deeply about his work and the business that he's leading. He thinks deeply about work. We just could just plum the depths of work philosophy together. And this conversation is just such a blast. We talk about really center in on this idea of the transformation that's required in you in order for you to become the next iteration of yourself, in order for your business to continue to grow and to succeed, to lead people where you want them to go. To take an organization, to grow it to its next level, you have to embrace the transformation that comes along with it.…

I had just such a fun conversation with Tom all about his just amazing work story from working in a family business at a kind of absurdly young age to what he is doing now, which is a very cool nonprofit that's been launched out of another business, which is a really amazing model. And the work that he does is just in such good alignment, just amazing alignment with my work. We get to dig into work trauma, a category that I see emerging in my own work. And I'm going to be creating more content about that because I think it's such a significant category. 1 You Don´t Need a Why 12:38
We hear all the time how important it is to have a clear “why” in your life and business. 🧐 But have you ever thought about WHY you need a why? Yes, I know the answer: ✔️ So you’ll be able to recall it when things are hard ✔️ So you can make sure all the decisions you’re making are taking you to in the right direction. ✔️ Etc. Those are all fine. And I drank that kool-aid for a long time on all of that. But here’s the problem: IF what you’re doing is so personally challenging and painful that you have to remind yourself WHY you’re doing it, then you have a problem. Most entrepreneurs don’t have a WHY problem. We have a HOW problem. ❌ If your pace is unsustainable, clarifying your why won’t help. ❌ If you’re over-working yourself, knowing WHY isn’t going keep you healthy. ❌ If you’re making less money than you need to be, spending more time than you want to be, and experiencing more stress than you should be — your why isn’t going to help. Change your “how”. ✅ How you live your days is how you live your life. I’ve burned out hard on this path, and I know from experience that when how you’re building your business and pursuing your goals is fun and balanced, the why takes care of itself. Stop sacrificing yourself to a life you don't love in order to gain a future that may never come. Show Notes: htpps://themeaningmovement.com/s11intro…

My guest today is Alex Sanfilippo. He owns a company dedicated to helping podcasters. I love and use many of the products that he is creating. I met Alex some time ago when I was a guest on his podcast, and since then, I've continued to watch him create more and more resources to serve this target demographic. And it has been so much fun. It was great to have him on the show. What I loved about this conversation is we got to get into the mindset of an entrepreneur and how he developed that mindset even before he was an entrepreneur. We talked about the difference between an intrapreneur and an entrepreneur. You could think of it as having an entrepreneur mindset and taking that mindset to your work— even if you're working for someone else. It was just a fantastic conversation. I love how he thinks about the impact of what he does. I love how he thinks about his mission at this stage in his life and approaches. It is really in an iterative process that he's figuring it out as he goes. And I think that's such an important framework for all of us to use as we think about our careers and our lives and where we are going. You'll find Amar's energy is just contagious. Omar Zenhom is a teacher at heart. I never really understood that until we had this interview. Omar has a daily business podcast. It's one of the top business podcasts. It's called the $100 MBA. It 's great. I've listened to it several times. I was always just so amazed at just the lift of having a daily podcast and doing it for years and years. He's been podcasting longer than I have. I've been podcasting for seven or eight years, and I just can't imagine podcasting every single day. But once we dug into some of Omar's story, we got into his background as a teacher, the work of preparing lessons every day for teaching, and how that trained him. It got him into the space where he could, without as much of a heavy lift, make podcasts every day. His experience put all of his work into context for me. I had a great conversation with Omar. We talked about everything from his childhood, growing up as a child of immigrants to the many entrepreneur pursuits that he has had along the way. It's just a really fun conversation. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Let's get into it. In this episode you’ll learn: -How Omar ended up becoming a teacher -The reason why Omar left his successful career -How Omar got started in entrepreneurship -How accepting that things in life are going to be hard sometimes -How your perspective can influence your career path. -Building resilience through hard work and hardships -Omar's approach to being an entrepreneur -Omar's sense of fulfillment in his chosen pursuits -Burning out, fulfillment, and the importance of rest and breaks -How going through hardships is beneficial for improvement -Omar’s advice to people who are currently looking for their niche -How Failure is part of the process -Understanding where you add value -Synergizing interests and expertise -Gaining momentum through success -Omar’s advice for people stepping into entrepreneurship -How Omar took the leap to be a full-time entrepreneur -The value of reading -How your environment affects you a& Omar's chose to move to New York -Omar's early experience as a full-time entrepreneur -Omar's realizations when he took up MBA -How the $100 MBA started -How Omar’s multiple enterprises are interconnected (podcast, software, online courses, webinars, keynote speaking ) -How Omar started WebinarNinja -Omar’s thoughts about software -Omar’s ideas that are contrary to popular belief Show notes: https://themeaningmovement.com/omarzenhom…
