In this week's 'News Roundtable' episode, host Chris Wright is joined by Spectator columnist and political commentator, Samantha Smith, and former London Assembly Member and political activist, Murad Qureshi.
The conversation kicks off the panel discussing the mayhem in Brazil, with Bolsonaro supporters storming Congress, comparing this to the January 6th US Capitol attack. They debate whether these tactics are a threat to democracy and whether or not voting systems are improved by technology.
They compare the UK’s “archaic” electoral voting system to the rest of the world and debate whether introducing technology would encourage young people to vote.
The panel then discusses the rumours of Boris Johnson’s return to Number 10. They question whether the Conservative Party and its members would welcome his return to Downing Street, and speculate on whether the Tories need a technocrat rather than a charismatic leader to keep their seats in the next general election.
Together, they discuss Prince Harry’s latest memoir ‘Spare’ and debate whether he is a threat to the constitutional monarchy. They touch upon the shocking allegations and speculate on why they have been made so publicly. Finally, they chew over his comments on his time in Afghanistan – is alienating himself from a group of people that showed continued support?
All this and much more debated on this week's episode!
