The world of digital marketing and advertising is continually being transformed. Just when you think you’ve finally caught up, there’s another curveball: Google is set to phase out support for third-party cookies in 2023.
This major change was originally announced in January of 2020, with the goal to implement in 2022. However, back in June of 2021, the tech giant presented an updated timeline for their “Privacy Sandbox” initiative. This is because Google’s plan includes not only blocking these cookies but also replacing them with a system of their own design—one they claim will protect user privacy better while still allowing for marketing.
Although website owners and marketers have additional time to transition to a cookieless future, it’s critical that we look ahead to its potential impact.
