Memphis coach Penny Hardaway has landed one of the best players in high school basketball. Five-star Emoni Bates, who recently announced he is reclassifying to the 2021 class, chose the Tigers over Michigan State, Oregon and the NBA G League Select Team.

Bates originally committed to Michigan State, but many national analysts believed he would chose the pro route after decommitting. Ultimately, Hardaway and the staff were able to convince to immensely talented Bates to chose Memphis.

Since he entered high school, Bates was tabbed as one of the best players in the country. As far as potential goes, it's scary how good Bates can be at both the college and professional level.

With Bates officially reclassifying to 2021, he will be a part of the 2021-2022 Memphis team along with five-star center Jalen Duren who also reclassified to '21. Bates will join a core of Landers Nolley, Lester Quinones and DeAndre Williams, and the Tigers also added Miami transfer Earl Timberlake and top 50 freshman Josh Minott.

The Tigers already had a ton of talent on the roster and they've added arguably the two best players in high school. Although he is getting on campus a little later than most freshmen, it wouldn't be surprising to see Bates adjust quickly.
