Hello, friends. In this episode, I answer two very different but important questions relating to moving forward from a traumatic childhood full of abuse and dealing with anxious behaviors which are impacting your relationships.

Question 1:

I was sexually abused as a child for years, and have been raped multiple times during my pre-teen and teenage years while experiencing physical and mental abuse from my mother, I have started talking about it more finally at 21 yo, I have been going to therapy since I was 15 but never brought any of that up since last year but my biggest hurdle is the repression of almost all of my childhood and some of my teenage years.

Do you have any advice on how to be at peace with all of my unanswered questions of memories? It is so hard hearing my siblings talk about good memories with me involved and I can’t recall them. And to not be able to explain the trauma when I don’t remember 90% of it, feeling like people will always think I’m lying since I can’t think of details.

Question 2:

Hi Dr. Duff,
I have recently found your podcast and wanted to say thank you for what you do! I was in a 2 year long distance relationship while I am completing a clinical doctorate degree, and my boyfriend recently broke up with me last week. I’ve realized how much I’ve let my anxiety control my behavior in the relationship, and acted in ways I deeply regret. I am seeking therapy and have an initial appointment next week. I know I have to work on myself first, but is it wrong to wonder if there’s a chance of getting back together one day? How would this even work being long distance? I graduate in May and our plans were to move in together, but obviously that’s not happening. I know he’s my person I just don’t know how to approach this.
