Segment 1:

Sam begins the podcast by discussing how important it is to allow ourselves to rest—truly rest, without the intention of later “making up for it.” He then introduces Pat Duckworth, respected author and speaker who specializes in the subject of menopause. He goes on to say that Pat has written five books including the Award-winning Hot Women, Cool Solutions: How to control menopause symptoms using mind/body techniques. They discuss the motivation behind Duckworth choosing to work in the public sector and some of her experiences.

Segment 2:

Sam and Pat return to discuss why exactly Pat decided to leave the public sector and retrain as a therapist and coach. She opens by revealing how her previous job wasn’t for her, before moving onto talking about her passion for understanding how people and their brains work. It’s been eleven years since she chose this new path of being a therapist and coach and she’s had many different clients and experiences in discovering what exactly she wanted to focus on within therapy and coaching.

Segment 3:

Next, Sam asks Pat what exactly drew her to studying menopause. She replies that she had been interested since hearing the word at a young age, and researched the subject thoroughly before deciding to pursue a career focusing on menopause. They have a conversation about how stigmatized menopause is, and whether or not we really talk about it more openly now than we used to. They also go to the root of the problem, talking about why aging itself, especially for women, is stigmatized.

Segment 4:

Returning to the conversation, Sam and Pat talk about why it’s so difficult to find solutions to the symptoms of menopause. Pat next offers some self care tips, such as keeping a sleep diary, for those going through menopause. She also suggests potential triggers to aggravate certain symptoms of menopause. After this topic, they move on to talking about how some people undergo menopause earlier than others, and thus, why it’s important to understand what menopause is at any age. Then they talk about why the discussion of menopause is very important to the workplace. To wrap up, Pat announces her new podcast on Talking Alternative Broadcasting, Hot Women Rock, that airs on the 24 June at 10am EST!
