In November 2019, he was appointed to the position of Assistant Deputy Minister of the Materiel Group, after a 23-year military career and close to 10 years as a public servant. Prior to joining the Canadian Public Service, Alan worked as a consultant and as an auditor in the private sector. He began his government career in 1972 working for Supply and Services Canada. He has written articles on leadership and has authored two books: Reinventing Canadian Defence Procurement: A View From the Inside published in 2006 and “Canada, Democracy and the F-35” published in 2012.
