Julian Walton is a renowned genealogist. He was recognised for his very significant contribution to Irish genealogy in 2021 with the Wallace Clare Award from the Irish Genealogical Research Society (IGRS). He has a good lively chat with Paul about many topics. He talks about Father Wallace Clare and the IGRS; how he got involved in family history as a small child; working on the Marquis of Waterford’s estate papers; editing the Irish Genealogist; his involvement in the IGRS tombstone sub-committee; Brian Cantwell’s transcription of gravestones, mainly in Wicklow and Wexford; forming the IGRS Ireland Branch; researching in the early modern period (for which he is well known); the changes in genealogy over five decades, good and bad; working in the field in Waterford since 1990; and his 19 years of presenting local history items on WLR FM – the local radio station in Waterford.
