Christmas is a special time of the year when we celebrate family, giving, and hopefully, Jesus' birth.But the birth of Jesus was only half of the point of the early church's celebration of Advent. The early church was looking beyond a singular moment in history, and they fixed their gaze on the second coming of Christ.
In Scripture, we see Jesus talking about His second coming through parables in an effort to encourage His disciples and followers to not be caught unprepared when He returns. He describes His return as "a thief in the night," meaning it will be unexpected and sudden.
