DISCLAIMER:
This podcast is a safe space to share experiences and tackle issues related to mental health. It is meant not to work as intervention or replace any treatment option. Should you feel that you are suffering from any mental discomfort, it is necessary to seek professional help from mental health professionals.

In this episode, you will learn about:

  • What stigma is
  • Where stigma is coming from
  • Three things a person with depression can do right now to boost self-esteem and increase tolerance to stigma
  • What family members, friends, and mental health professionals can do to ease the burden of persons who are subjected to stigma

When it comes to breaking the social stigma on mental health, there are tons of professional advice written in books and resources on the internet. The truth is, these pieces of advice are easier said than done.

The severe impact of social stigma transcends race, social status, religion, and gender preferences. More than a mindset problem, it is rather systemic in nature. Oftentimes, the burden on the person suffering mental health issues is aggravated by social stigma leading to more serious complications. The fact is that stigma is a massive social issue that should be addressed through public awareness, advocacy, and collective action.

In this episode, Coach Aileen gives light on the stigma affecting persons undergoing mental health issues and shares a doze of actionable advice; because friends, family and health professionals within the inner circle can do so much to help increase tolerance on the so-called stigma.
