Hello everyone, I am a black woman and as such I am also part of the huge community of women of color and each of us need to devote more energy and love to working with our Latina, Native American, and Asian-American sisters. For we cannot move forward or achieve social sanity and health if we hold on to any form of racist stereotypes about other women and men who also bear the marks of the world’s racist history.
So today HBP Wellness Lifestyle Podcast with Donna Williams is for my Black and brown skinned community a guide in finding joy while illnesses manifest itself within our bodies partially brought on from our generational fears and pain.
I’m urging you to let us stay close, take our health needs seriously and to know it is our right to think good health as being much more than the mere absence of disease. Today let’s consider how can we stop devaluing our bodies and our psyches and become warriors against high blood pressure, and stress that afflict our communities.
Today’s episode is about my black and brown skinned community that have illnesses manifesting within their bodies, find joy while dealing with generational fears and pains.
The trauma that is witness in the Black community is sometimes of extreme emotional response to an event, and our inability to use our coping skills triggers high blood pressure and other chronic illnesses.
What you don’t realize is confronting that trauma happening within the mind and body is the first step in treating its effects on your health. In the African American community, a lot of the trauma is about survival.
Zoa Neale Hurston wrote “The Black woman is the mule of the world’. Wherein she talked about where it is expected that we take care of everyone but ourselves and carry everyone’s load but our own. So, who takes care of you!
When YOU can answer that question, you’ll be in either of these two places:
- A rebuilder of healthier skeleton that is fitter and a less stressed you.
- Or on the treadmill of dieting on and off.
