This story is centered around a character on the brink of suicide after the consecutive bereavements of three close family members, the mother, father and stepfather. This actually happened to me in 2019, I lost my stepdad (who had been the primary influence of my entire life) suddenly in the October of that year after a short but sudden illness. My mum, who was utterly devoted to him simply could not cope with his loss and systematically drank herself to death within a year. Then (amazing as this may sound) my biological dad committed suicide (the circumstances weren't linked) cutting his wrists in the bath, I discovered his body. I wrote the chapter as a way of learning to cope with my own grief and in a strange way, it did help, usually most things in my life, both good and bad, manage to find a route into my work.
