Mokadi Max Mathye has 25 years of experience as a senior business leader in the private and public sectors. He is passionate about business leadership development journeys, corporate governance, customer service, learning and skills development, coaching and mentoring, and professional development of teachers and educators. He has a successful career as an executive and non executive director of private and public entities. He is the founder and CEO of consultant company MMDDCC, as well as the national president of Coaches and Mentors of South Africa (COMENSA).

Today, Mokadi joins me to talk about what it means for a leader to be a coach. He points out that every leader needs followers, and he posits that the way to gain true followers is to engage them. He discusses how to engage your followers, emphasizing the importance of treating them as equal colleagues and co-contributors rather than subordinates. He talks about the benefits of this approach and distinguishes between supportive and judgmental leadership. Finally, he notes the importance of understanding the why of your organization.

“You cannot be a leader unless there are followers that are following you.”

- Mokadi Max Mathye
