The Paradox of Pentecost
Manage episode 344535337 series 1097733
Acts 2:13-18 Peter declared the 120 were not drunk but filled with new wine. Intoxicated but sober. This is the paradox of Pentecost What intoxicates your life? Four effects of the paradox of Pentecost: Pentecost effects our confidence. Acts 2:14 We find confidence over past failures, impulses, and sins. Peter’s ability to preach the Gospel on the Day of Pentecost proves the intoxicant of Pentecost. Pentecost makes us WITNESSES! When under the influence of Holy Spirit we are intoxicated with God’s love, mercy, grace, generosity, power….. Pentecost effects our character. Acts 5 Holy Spirit helps us understand God’s opinion is more important than mans. Holy Spirit is the fire that keeps us going when others think we should quit! Pentecost effects our courage. Acts 4 We are living in an age where courage to represent Jesus is imperative! “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” Edmond Burke “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer The intoxicant of Pentecost fills us with courage to speak and act! Pentecost effects our community. Acts 2:44-45 What has your relationship with God cost you? Has Pentecost caused you any discomfort? The Paradox of Pentecost brings change IN you, THROUGH you and AROUND you.
