American Exceptionalism
Manage episode 334166962 series 2795725
This week, I discuss American exceptionalism and how it has affected me and daughters of immigrants. I shared personal stories about my frustration with the “American Standard”. As a therapist, I want to provide help and my mental health services to daughters of immigrants in the United states, but it is difficult to do so when I am not licensed in the United States. Other therapists can relate to my disappointment when I just want to give women of color a safe space and help them heal. This America exceptionalism can be inherently harmful for people who want to reach out and find the right therapist for them and receive proper mental health care. I dive deeper about all the problems America faces, and how the “glamourous land of free” isn’t what it seems.
