The Grand Surprise
David Le Terre & Christmas in July by H. Todd
The surprising, brilliant, tell-it-like-it-is verse of David La Terre, special thanks to Ghandi Jones for sending along his work, and thank God his work survives. Topical today as it was when penned, you owe it to yourself to lay aside a half hour to give it a listen. Celebrating White Trash Christmas in July, I give you "Miss Piggy and the Longshoreman, an American Christmas, from the stage of the original Crocodile Cafe', with members of Drivin' & Cryin,' Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees, as well as REM/Young Fresh Fellows. Good times!
David La Terre is mostly reading at The Shack, which I'm guessing was a California Bar circa 1990s. There was such a happening poetry scene throughout the Northwest in those times. Thankfully, someone had the presence of mind, to record what was going on. The NW Poetry Forum strives to bring you spoken word from any time in any shitty or wonderful place it happened, and repackage it here in approximately a half hour and give you the opportunity to relive it, to listen to it with your own ears on your own time. An experiment. I'm asking you to forward this initial email to everyone one on your list. Maybe they listen, maybe they don't but at least they have the option. Thanks a million,
Hamish Todd
